PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arnavut Sevket (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Arnavut Sevket!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Askren!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sevket just misses with a punch to the body.
Askren uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sevket.
Askren throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sevket throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sevket fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Askren manages to avoid it.
Askren digs a good body shot into Sevket's ribs.
Sevket closes the distance and clinches up with Askren, looking for a takedown. Sevket pushes Askren against the cage but Askren circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sevket misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Askren.
Askren throws a quick inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Askren comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Askren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sevket swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sevket is fighting to break Askren's control of his arms but Askren is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Askren uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sevket.
Askren has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sevket ducks under a wild hook from Askren.
Sevket was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Sevket swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Askren tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Sevket takes one to the chin there.

A quick step to the side and Sevket tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Askren uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sevket.
Sevket throws out a loose jab but Askren uses good head movement to avoid it.

Sevket looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Askren is fending him off so far but Sevket persists. Nope, Askren circles away and we're back to standing.
Askren has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

and Sevket counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Sevket looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Sevket swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Askren.

and Askren takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Askren scores with a crisp jab that stopped Sevket in his tracks.

Sevket fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Askren lands with a nice combination. Sevket backs away looking to recover.
Sevket ducks under a wild hook from Askren.

Askren shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sevket is trying to defend but Askren finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sevket tries to roll over but Askren keeps him under control.
Askren moves nicely into side control.
Askren misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Askren creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Sevket sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Sevket tries to buck Askren off but Askren is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Sevket's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sevket regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Askren.
Askren sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sevket's guard.

Jon Askren comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Askren has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
