Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nolan Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Blair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nolan Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Blair!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Powell misses the target.
Blair looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Powell throws a head kick that misses
and Blair counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Powell moves into the clinch.

Powell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Powell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Blair sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Powell somewhat.
Blair drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Powell defends it well.
Powell blocks a low kick nicely.
Blair throws a low kick but Powell avoids it.

Blair shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Blair stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Powell to get to his feet.
Blair tries to close the distance and clinch up but Powell swats him away and circles back towards the center.

A nice leg kick lands there from Powell.

Blair shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Powell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Blair trying to control from half guard but Powell is working away.
Powell is trying to stand up here but Blair is controlling him well.
Blair really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Powell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Powell is looking to improve his position.

Blair is looking to advance position but Powell won't allow it.

Powell avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Blair.

Powell wants to control but Blair is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Powell wants to get back to his feet.

Blair is working for a submission of some sort.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Blair misses with an uppercut. Powell saw that one coming.
Powell appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Blair closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Blair wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powell keeps working.
Blair is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Powell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Blair manages to get himself to full guard.


Powell stands up from Blair's guard - Powell perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Blair looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Blair thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Blair seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Powell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Powell pushes Blair off and gets back to his feet.
Powell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powell tries to clinch there but Blair circles away.
Blair tries to counter with a clinch but Powell shakes him off and moves away.
Blair wants to clinch.

Blair gets a double leg takedown into Powell's guard.

Powell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Blair defends it easily.
Blair being controlled here momentarily.
Blair must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Blair gets to his feet - Powell follows without any prompting.

Powell looks for the body kick but Blair saw that one coming.

Powell gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Blair to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Blair with a flurry of punches that miss.
Blair trying to control but Powell is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powell wants to get back to his feet but Blair is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Blair not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Blair stands up and waves to Powell to follow him.

Blair shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Blair is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Powell sees it coming and defends easily.
Powell controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Blair content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Blair wants to control but Powell is keeping him busy.
Jake Blair has got the better of the ground game so far.

Powell has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Blair escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Blair!
Powell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Blair wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Powell is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Blair showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Blair decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Powell moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Blair wants to pass the guard but Powell is keeping the position.

Powell is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Blair loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Blair trying to control the position from guard on top but Powell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blair forces his way into half guard.
Blair wants to pass to mount but Powell is defending the position.

Blair performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Blair wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powell keeps working.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Blair looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Powell is trying to keep Blair in close.
Blair trying to control the position from guard on top but Powell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Powell is looking for a triangle but Blair pushes his legs off easily.
Blair throws an elbow that misses. Powell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Blair's guard. Nice move by Powell!


Blair looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Powell has picked Blair up and slammed him! Blair can't keep hold of the triangle and Powell manages to pass to side control!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Blair manages to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Blair comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Blair winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
