PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Gutierrez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Deforest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stephen Deforest told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Deforest tries to score a body lock takedown but Gutierrez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Deforest is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gutierrez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Deforest is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Deforest shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gutierrez but Gutierrez pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Horrible takedown attempt by Deforest or perhaps it was just good defense by Gutierrez, which made it look bad.

Gutierrez looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Deforest has picked Gutierrez up and slammed him! Gutierrez can't keep hold of the triangle and Deforest manages to pass to side control!

That was a close second round but I would say that Benjamin Gutierrez will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gutierrez enables Deforest to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gutierrez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Gutierrez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Deforest doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Deforest manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gutierrez seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Gutierrez wants to hit a switch here but Deforest passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Gutierrez there!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Deforest is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gutierrez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gutierrez shrugs it off.
Deforest has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
