The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jaron counters with a big head kick but Pope shrugs it off.
Jaron scores with a leg kick.
Jaron closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Jaron breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jaron is looking for a sweep. Pope is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jaron keeps the fight on the outside.
Despite the aggression on Jaron's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Jaron closes the distance and pushes Pope back into the cage.
Pope is struggling to control the position.
Jaron tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pope smiles and moves away.
Pope shoots in for a double leg but Jaron sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pope tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jaron manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jaron enables Pope to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jaron manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Jaron is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pope is controlling him.
Pope has gone for a leg lock! Jaron slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pope's guard.

Jaron prevents Pope from getting back to his feet.
Jaron looking to sit in guard and control but Pope gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
