Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sumanji Okonuwa!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Chris Dean and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okonuwa looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Okonuwa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Okonuwa postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Gates looking to control.
Okonuwa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Gates wants to stand and escape but Okonuwa is having none of it.
Okonuwa slips nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Okonuwa throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Okonuwa working over Gates with some ground and pound. Gates looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

It looks like Okonuwa might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Okonuwa is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gates has managed to free his arm - good work.
Okonuwa perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Okonuwa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Okonuwa works his way into side control.
Okonuwa has hold of Gates's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gates tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Okonuwa cranks the arm and Gates screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gates, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
