PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Godbolt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Godbolt comes to the cage accompanied by Trenches by Pop Evil. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Godbolt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Roberto Kim!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim looks for the body kick but Godbolt saw that one coming.
Kim scores with a nice right hand.
Kim has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Godbolt is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Godbolt lands a really nice looking cross but Kim seems unphased.
Godbolt throws a lazy right hand but Kim sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Godbolt throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kim drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Godbolt defends it well.
Kim shoots in but no luck this time.
A quick step to the side and Godbolt tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kim takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Kim lands a nice leg kick that just misses Godbolt's sensitive parts.
Kim throws a half hearted mid kick.
Kim feints and then cracks Godbolt's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Godbolt down.
Kim shoots in looking for a takedown. Godbolt tries to sprawl out of it but Kim keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Godbolt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kim manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Godbolt on his heels. He'll look to pass Godbolt's guard now, I'm sure.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Godbolt is looking to sweep but instead, Kim has passed into half guard.

Kim wants to work for an arm triangle but Godbolt is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kim uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Godbolt.
Kim shoots in and drives through. Godbolt sprawls well.
Matthew Godbolt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roberto Kim.

Kim shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Godbolt but Godbolt pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Kim ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Godbolt moves away.
Kim shoots in looking for a takedown but Godbolt manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
It looked like Godbolt wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Kim walks into a straight right hand from Godbolt.
Kim swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Godbolt.

and Kim counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Godbolt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kim has managed to get both his arms back between Godbolt's legs - danger averted.

Kim wants to control from the top but Godbolt keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Roberto Kim will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Godbolt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kim.
As Kim looks to move away, Godbolt throws a big counter combo bu Kim just gets out of the way.
Godbolt stuffs the takedown attempt from Kim. Kim gets slowly back to his feet.
Kim swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Godbolt throws a big shot that misses.
Donk. Godbolt catches Kim right on the button with a cross.
Kim throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Godbolt throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kim shoots in for a takedown but Godbolt shows good takedown defense.

Matthew Godbolt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roberto Kim.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Godbolt checks a leg kick.
Godbolt is looking to counter punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Godbolt blocks a low kick nicely.
A counter left hand to the body from Godbolt misses its target.
Kim misses with a hook
and Godbolt counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Roberto Kim has been cut.
Nice uppercut lands for Godbolt. That snapped Kim's head back.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kim changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Godbolt lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Kim falls backwards - clearly groggy! Godbolt dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matthew Godbolt!
A relieved looking Matthew Godbolt thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
Roberto Kim was interviewed post fight and said 'HOOOODOOR!'.
