PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Craig Forbes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Terkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Craig Forbes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Alan Terkey!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Phil Schofield and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Forbes gets a takedown into half guard.

Terkey kicks Forbes off and gets back to his feet.

Forbes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Forbes slows the pace down in half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Terkey is looking for a sweep. Forbes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Forbes controlling the action here.
Terkey is pressing down on Forbes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Terkey looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Forbes wants to control from the top but Terkey keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Forbes wants to pass the guard but Terkey is keeping the position.
Forbes throwing strikes from guard but Terkey blocks nicely.
Terkey preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Forbes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Terkey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Forbes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Forbes with a flurry of punches that miss.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Forbes tries to stand but Terkey is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Forbes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Terkey explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Forbes moves in looking to clinch but Terkey pushes him off.

Forbes shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Terkey is trying to defend but Forbes finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Terkey is trying is best to control the position here.

Terkey kicks off Forbes and gets to his feet.

Forbes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Terkey quickly recovers to half guard.

Terkey on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Terkey punching from the bottom.
Forbes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Forbes trying to control the action but Terkey is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Terkey is controlling Forbes's trapped leg to prevent Forbes from advancing to side control.
Terkey is pressing down on Forbes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Forbes wants to control from the top but Terkey keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Terkey wriggles free and stands up.
Forbes throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Terkey counters with a stiff right hand.
Forbes checks a low kick from Terkey.
Forbes moves into range and connects with a jab.

Terkey throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Forbes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Terkey is in Forbes's guard.
Terkey postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Terkey gets to his feet - Forbes follows without any prompting.

Terkey fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Forbes, pushing him back against the cage.

Forbes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Terkey dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Forbes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Terkey.
Terkey connects with the punch.
Forbes tries to clinch up.

Forbes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Terkey kicks Forbes off and gets back to his feet.

Terkey fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Forbes, pushing him back against the cage.
Terkey misses with a hook to the ribs.
Terkey with a knee to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Forbes looking to slow down the pace here.

Terkey gets control of Forbes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Terkey will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Forbes forces his way into half guard.
Terkey is staying active underneath Forbes, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Alan Terkey has got the better of the ground game so far.
Terkey is trying to stand up here but Forbes is controlling him well.
Terkey has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Forbes trying to control the action but Terkey is working from the bottom.
Forbes blocks the strikes from Terkey.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Forbes prevents Terkey from improving his position.
Terkey is staying active underneath Forbes, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Forbes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Terkey is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Terkey dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Terkey gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Forbes to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Terkey pushes Forbes off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Forbes wants to clinch up but Terkey keeps it at a distance.
Forbes tries to clinch there but Terkey circles away.

Forbes moves in looking to clinch but Terkey pushes him off.
Terkey avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Terkey tries to counter by closing the distance.

Forbes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Terkey napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Terkey bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Forbes drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Terkey kicks Forbes off and gets to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Forbes goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Terkey feints and as Forbes raises his hands in defense, Terkey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Forbes controls Terkey momentarily but Terkey frees himself.

Forbes keeping full guard, as Terkey tries to pass.
Forbes thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Terkey keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Forbes's head.

Terkey is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Terkey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Terkey gets caught flat footed, as Forbes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Forbes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Forbes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Forbes trying to control the position from guard on top but Terkey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Terkey avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Forbes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Terkey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Terkey pulls Forbes in close to his closed guard and prevents Forbes from doing any damage or advancing position.
Terkey's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Terkey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Forbes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Forbes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Forbes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Forbes trying to control the position but Terkey is working away.
Terkey is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Terkey is trying to control Forbes's posture but Forbes avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The strikes coming from Forbes are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Forbes wants to control but Terkey is keeping him busy.
Terkey stops Forbes from passing to mount.
Terkey pushes Forbes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Forbes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Craig Forbes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Forbes shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Terkey is trying to defend but Forbes finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Terkey manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Forbes keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Forbes decides to pull guard.
Craig Forbes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alan Terkey is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Terkey not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Craig Forbes.
Well Terkey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
