The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Monroe looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Perez ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Miguel Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perez jabs Monroe right on the nose. Monroe blinks but takes it well.
Perez tests Monroe's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Perez looks to score with a jab to the body but Monroe is just out of range.
It looked like Monroe was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Monroe dives in and grabs Perez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Perez pushes down on Monroe's head and hops out.
It seemed like Perez was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Monroe closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Monroe lands in his opponent's guard.

Perez tries to lock up and control but Monroe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
