PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keo Kalanie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Keo Kalanie told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalanie misses with a hook to the body
and Dean counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kalanie thinking.
Kalanie looks to score with a jab to the body but Dean is just out of range.

Dean fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kalanie to the ground. Dean is now in Kalanie's guard.
Kalanie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dean controls from within his opponent's guard.
Dean scoring with some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kalanie keeping moving, preventing Dean from controlling successfully.
Kalanie is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Dean trying to control the position from guard on top but Kalanie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Dean is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kalanie misses with a body punch
and Dean counters with a nice body kick.
Dean keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Dean rushes Kalanie and presses him up against the cage.

Dean manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Kalanie throws a big elbow that misses.
Kalanie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dean's guard.

Dean is refusing to be controlled, as Kalanie sits in half guard.
Kalanie looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Dean wants to improve his position but Kalanie is controlling well.
Dean is breathing heavily.
Kalanie throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Dean is looking to control Kalanie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dean avoid being mounted?
Kalanie is looking to take a break and control but Dean is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Dean knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kalanie on the ground.

Kalanie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dean doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kalanie.

Kalanie wants to control but Dean is keeping him busy.
Dean is looking for a sweep. Kalanie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kalanie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dean!

Kalanie tries to control but Dean wriggling away.
Kalanie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dean haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kalanie in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Dean tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Kalanie!
