Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Armondo Munoz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Santos!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Munoz pushes Santos up against the cage in a clinch.
Santos jumps guard but Munoz turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Santos fails to pull guard.
Santos tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Armondo Munoz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gustavo Santos.
Munoz digs a right hand underneath Santos's ribcage. Santos let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Santos tries to pull guard but Munoz won't allow it.
Santos prevents a body shot from Munoz.
Munoz makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Munoz struggles to land a body shot inside as Santos controls his hands.
Santos tries to pull guard but Munoz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Munoz creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Munoz lands with a light punch inside.
Santos tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Munoz smiles and moves away.
Munoz lands a nice looking kick to the body. Santos takes a step back to recover.
Santos looks winded!

Munoz moves into the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Munoz pushes Santos back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Santos tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Munoz just stands there and leans against the cage.

Santos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Munoz walks away with a smile on his face. Santos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Munoz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Munoz lands a nice leg kick that just misses Santos's sensitive parts.
Santos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Munoz counter with a right hand.

Munoz moves into range and clinches up with Santos.
Munoz lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Santos tries to pull guard but Munoz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Santos pulls Munoz into guard.
Munoz tries to free his leg and advance position but Santos is retaining full guard.
Munoz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Munoz wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.
Munoz looking to sit in guard and control but Santos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Munoz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Santos on the ground.

Munoz has an active guard here but Santos has managed to pass into half guard.

It looks like Santos might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Santos shoots for a takedown but Munoz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Santos throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Munoz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Santos is in Munoz's guard.

Santos drops back looking for a leg! Munoz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Munoz manages to kick Santos off! Santos jumps back into Munoz's guard.

Munoz has control of Santos's left arm, preventing Santos from doing any damage.

Munoz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Santos defends it easily.
Santos wants to control from the top but Munoz keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Munoz bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Munoz is looking to slow Santos down with leg kicks.
Munoz throws a wild body kick that Santos sees coming a mile off.
Armondo Munoz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Munoz fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Santos.

Santos drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Munoz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Santos can do to turn this around?

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Santos is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Munoz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Santos goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Munoz rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Santos's guard! Nice work there by Munoz!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Munoz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Santos dives on top into guard.

It looks like Gustavo Santos has been cut.
Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Munoz but Munoz pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Santos tries to move into range but Munoz moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

That was a close second round but I would say that Armondo Munoz will probably get the nod.

Munoz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santos is just riding it out for now. Munoz eventually gives up the hold.

Armondo Munoz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
