PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Slack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Testo Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Testo Speed looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Slack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Testo Speed!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Speed tries to clinch but Slack moves out of range.
Speed looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Slack tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Speed manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Slack shoots in and drives through. Speed sprawls well.
Slack shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Speed sprawls well. Speed wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Slack gets slowly back to his feet.

Slack closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Speed's guard.
Slack looking to sit in guard and control but Speed gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Speed preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slack is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Speed is controlling him.

Speed got a little sloppy there for a moment and Slack has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Speed has managed to get both his arms back between Slack's legs - danger averted.

Slack is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Speed is aware though and is defending well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Slack is on top in guard.

Speed looking to control.
Speed wants to stand and escape but Slack is having none of it.
Slack wants to get up but he can't break Speed's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Slack trying to control the position from guard on top but Speed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Slack wants to pass the guard but Speed is keeping the position.
Slack wants to control from the top but Speed keeps moving.
Slack is in close to Speed's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Slack controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Slack would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Slack scores with a head kick.
Slack throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Speed tries to close the distance and clinch but Slack swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Speed looks for a takedown but Slack sprawls well.
Slack is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Slack fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Slack looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Slack closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Speed's guard.
Slack wants to pass the guard but Speed is keeping the position.
Slack passes easily into side control. Nice work.
A lull in the action here.
Speed parries the strikes from Slack easily there. Slack is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Speed to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Slack tries a head kick but it misses.
Slack tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Speed defends well and Slack ends up having to push Speed into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Slack tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Speed paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Slack tries for a takedown but Speed sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Speed keeps the fight on the outside.
Slack throws a head kick that misses.
A head kick misses from Slack.
Speed lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Slack moves into the clinch successfully.

Speed breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Slack fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Speed sprawls well initially but Slack persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Slack wants to control but Speed is keeping him busy.
Slack controlling the pace.
Speed is breathing heavily.
Slack moves nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Slack tries for a kimura but Speed is defending well.
Speed is looking for a sweep.
We've been informed that Speed has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Speed looks to move to half guard but instead Slack has passed into mount! Damn!

Slack working for a submission but Speed is keeping him at bay.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Slack tries to control but Speed wriggling away.
Slack is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Speed can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slack lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Speed is squirming around, avoiding Slack's attempts to control the action.
Speed is looking to improve his position but Slack isn't that keen on the idea.
Slack punishing his opponent with strikes.
Slack is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Speed can do to turn this around?

Slack content just to control the position here.
Slack tries to control but Speed wriggling away.
Slack looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Slack landing strikes, looking to finish!

Speed defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Slack.

Slack lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Speed hang on?
Speed is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Slack looking to control and managing it successfully.

Slack is working for a guillotine from mount but Speed frees his head quite easily.
Slack trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Speed can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Slack fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Slack feints and as Speed raises his hands in defense, Slack changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Slack slips nicely into half guard.
Slack wants to stand up but Speed is controlling the position.
Slack stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slack moves nicely into side control.
Speed takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Slack wants to control but Speed is keeping him busy.

Slack is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Speed has escaped the position, nice work there.
Slack throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Slack is looking to take a break and control but Speed is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Slack is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Speed is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Slack tries for a kimura but Speed is defending well.
Speed defending against the ground and pound.

Slack stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Slack rushes Speed and presses him up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Slack has clasped his hands together around Speed's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Speed is not content to let Slack control the position.

Slack working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Slack staying calm.
Slack is looking to take a break and control but Speed is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Slack showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Slack, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
