PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jere Spence (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Top (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jere Spence has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jere Spence seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jere Spence!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dave Top!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spence clinches.
Spence trying to stall but Top improves his position.
Spence is working for takedown but Top is calmly controlling the position for now.

Top manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Top has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Top working for a triangle but Spence defends it easily.
Spence connects with a couple of short punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Top looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Top working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spence.
Spence might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Top wants to stand but Spence is controlling the position.

Spence throws a strike but Top rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Spence could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Spence is trying to control the position but Top postures up.
Top wants to pass the guard but Spence is keeping the position.
Spence will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Top gets the takedown into side control.
Top trying to control the action but Spence is working from the bottom.

Top wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Spence, who protects the arm well.
Top looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Spence is avoiding damage well.
Top is looking to take a break and control but Spence is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Top goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Spence has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Top but great work by Spence.
Spence gets to mount! Top was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Top wants to hold on but Spence pushes him away.
Spence has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Spence is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Top can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Top is desperately trying to improve his position but Spence has a good base and remains in mount.

Top tries to hold on but Spence pushes him away.
Spence has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Top's face.
The referee warns Top that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Spence tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Spence fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Spence postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Top looks a forlorn figure.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Top closes the distance and clinches.
Top lands a nice knee to the body.

Top has picked Spence up - he's going for a ride! Top dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Spence is trying to maintain the position but Top is very close to passing his half guard.
Spence tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Spence is staying active underneath Top, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Spence holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Top wants to free his trapped foot but Spence is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Top is breathing heavily.
Top wants to take a breather but Spence is having none of it.

Spence is looking to control Top's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spence avoid being mounted?

Spence is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Spence has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Spence's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Top has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spence can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Top shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Top was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Spence is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Top asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dave Top showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Spence's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Top feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Spence is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Top postures up in Spence's guard and throws a big left but Spence blocks it.

Top presses Spence against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Top tightens his grip and picks Spence up, before dumping him to the ground. Spence manages to land in guard.
Spence has Top pulled in close to control his posture.
Top is looking to stand up but Spence won't let him.

Spence throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Spence keeping moving, preventing Top from controlling successfully.
Spence pulls Top in close to prevent any damage.
Top trying to control the position from guard on top but Spence is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Spence pulls Top in close to his closed guard and prevents Top from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Spence closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Top to the mat! Top manages to get full guard.
Top wants to get back to his feet but Spence is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Top trying to keep a closed guard but Spence is proving a slippery customer.
