PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Gotwalt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gasan Umalatov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Umalatov has chosen Don Omar - Danza Kuduro ft. Lucenzo as his entrance music. Gasan Umalatov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Gotwalt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gasan Umalatov!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gotwalt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Umalatov avoids it really well and circles away.
Gotwalt dodges the punch combination from Umalatov.
Umalatov lunges at Gotwalt with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Gotwalt's hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gotwalt darts in looking for a takedown but Umalatov gets double underhooks and turns Gotwalt into the cage.
Umalatov drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Gotwalt defends it well.

Umalatov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gotwalt is trying to control Umalatov's posture but Umalatov avoids it.
Gotwalt is not content to let Umalatov control the position.

Gotwalt tries to buck Umalatov off but Umalatov is having none of it.

Umalatov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Umalatov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gotwalt is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gotwalt is trying to get back to half guard.

Umalatov trying to control the action but Gotwalt is working from the bottom.

Umalatov tries for a kimura but Gotwalt is defending well.
Gotwalt is trying to control Umalatov's posture but Umalatov avoids it.

Umalatov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Gotwalt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Umalatov is looking to take a break and control but Gotwalt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Umalatov is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Gotwalt is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Umalatov off and has taken his back!

Gotwalt is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Umalatov is trying to break free.
Gotwalt controlling the position well here. Umalatov rolled but Gotwalt kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Gotwalt looking to break Umalatov's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Umalatov remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Gotwalt will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Umalatov keeps trying to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gotwalt not allowing Umalatov to control his hands.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gotwalt is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Umalatov with him. Umalatov is trying to defend but Gotwalt has an arm under the chin now! Umalatov grimaces and is forced to tap out!
