Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Papy Abedi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Romano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Papy Abedi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samuel Romano!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romano takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Romano is defended easily by Abedi.
Abedi throwing a counter right hand but Romano manages to avoid it.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Abedi, as that shot connected.
Romano cracks Abedi with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


It looks like Papy Abedi has been cut.
The crowd cheers as Abedi lands an impressive looking overhand right. Romano doesn't seem phased though.
Romano fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Abedi looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Samuel Romano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Romano ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Romano jabs at Abedi's body.
Romano tries a head kick but it misses.
Romano just misses with a punch to the body.
Abedi is looking to counter punch.

Abedi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Romano's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Romano utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Abedi with a nice head shot there.
Romano is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Romano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Abedi stands up over Romano, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Romano holds on and takes a little breather.

Romano looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Abedi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Romano trying to keep a closed guard but Abedi is proving a slippery customer.
Romano wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Abedi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Abedi distracts Romano with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Abedi throws a big right hand that misses.
Romano wants to sweep but no luck.
Abedi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Abedi is in close to Romano's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Romano managing to control the position.
Abedi throws a big elbow that misses.
Abedi lands a couple of digs.
Abedi working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Romano's head.
Abedi trying to control the position from guard on top but Romano is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Abedi postures up in Romano's guard and throws a big left but Romano blocks it.
Abedi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Abedi wants to control from the top but Romano keeps moving.

Abedi postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Abedi is in close to Romano's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Romano is still in real trouble! Can Abedi finish him?
Abedi arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Romano's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Papy Abedi!
After the fight, Papy Abedi was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
