PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arjun Batar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafal Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wallace has chosen Sandaless - Wojownik as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Arjun Batar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rafal Wallace!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wallace closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Batar's guard.
Batar keeping moving, preventing Wallace from controlling successfully.
Wallace's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wallace trying to control the position from guard on top but Batar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Batar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wallace slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Batar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wallace defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wallace is looking to pass into half guard but Batar pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Batar is in guard.

Batar is looking to work some ground and pound but Wallace has wrist control.
Wallace controls Batar momentarily but Batar frees himself.
Batar wants to control from the top but Wallace keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Wallace is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Batar's half guard.

Wallace is looking to stall here but Batar recovers full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Batar tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Wallace avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Batar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wallace controls the pace.

Rafal Wallace dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Wallace throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Batar was covering up waiting for the punch and Wallace finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Batar wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Wallace manages to pass to side control.

Wallace slips a nice elbow through Batar's hands, connecting with Batar's forehead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wallace is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rafal Wallace has got the better of the ground game so far.
Batar is staying active underneath Wallace, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Batar is trying to maintain the position but Wallace is very close to passing his half guard.
Wallace wants to take a breather but Batar is having none of it.

Wallace is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wallace connects with a nice short shot to Batar's temple.

Wallace thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Wallace is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Batar knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Wallace has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wallace wants to sweep but no luck.

Wallace is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rafal Wallace showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Wallace shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wallace showed some decent athleticism there.
Batar wants to stand back up but Wallace manages to pass into side control.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Wallace. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wallace lands with some strikes.
Batar tries to reverse the position but Wallace maintains control.
Wallace wants to control the pace but Batar is squirming around nicely.
Batar tries to hold on but Wallace pushes him away.
Wallace lands a nice shot to the head.

Wallace jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Batar is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Batar and Wallace has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Wallace wants to lay and pray for a moment but Batar keeps working.

The strikes coming from Wallace are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Batar takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Batar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wallace wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Well Wallace has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
