PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Gypsy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Du Vale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Gypsy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marc Du Vale!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gypsy thows a leg kick but Du Vale checks it
and Du Vale makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Du Vale falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gypsy holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Du Vale tries to break free but Gypsy pushes him back against the cage.

Gypsy takes the fight into the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gypsy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Du Vale defends it nicely.
Du Vale is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Gypsy misses with a takedown attempt
and Du Vale counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Du Vale is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Du Vale pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Gypsy's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Du Vale is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Du Vale has had enough of the clinch but Gypsy keeps him there for the moment.

Gypsy breaks the clinch.
Gypsy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Du Vale sprawls well. Du Vale wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gypsy gets slowly back to his feet.
Du Vale is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Du Vale lands a nice hook to Gypsy's body. Gypsy takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Gypsy rushes Du Vale and presses him up against the cage.
Gypsy throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Du Vale blocks it with crossed arms.
Gypsy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Du Vale's coach down at Soul Supremacy Rio was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Du Vale's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Du Vale is trying to break free.
Gypsy tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Du Vale smiles and moves away.
Gypsy misses with a leg kick
and Du Vale counters with a one-two to the body.
Du Vale misses with the combination.
Gypsy tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Du Vale manages to circle out of the way.
Gypsy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gypsy has his takedown stuffed
and Du Vale counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Du Vale lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Du Vale tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gypsy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gypsy shoots in but Du Vale avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Du Vale is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Gypsy with a body shot.
Carlos Gypsy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gypsy scores with a head kick. Du Vale tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Du Vale works over Gypsy's head and body with a nice combination.

Gypsy rushes Du Vale and presses him up against the cage.
Du Vale blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Du Vale is trying to break the clinch but Gypsy has him pressed against the cage.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gypsy is looking for a triangle but Du Vale pushes his legs off easily.

Gypsy has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Du Vale is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Gypsy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gypsy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gypsy is on top in guard.
Gypsy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Gypsy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Du Vale avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Gypsy has Du Vale pressed against the cage, preventing Du Vale from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Du Vale prevents the takedown attempt.
Gypsy tries for a takedown but Du Vale manages to get underhooks.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gypsy tries to pull guard but Du Vale holds him up against the cage and eventually Gypsy drops back down to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee is keeping an eye on Gypsy - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

and Du Vale counters with a nice uppercut.
Du Vale is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Gypsy throws a right hand that misses
and Du Vale counters with a left and a right that stings Gypsy.
Gypsy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Du Vale swivels and escapes.

Du Vale throws a leg kick which misses Gypsy's front leg but catches the back leg as Gypsy tries to avoid it.

Gypsy dives in and scores a takedown into Du Vale's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gypsy wants to control from the top but Du Vale keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gypsy is pushing down on Du Vale's leg trying to pass to half guard. Du Vale is fighting to maintain full guard but Gypsy has managed to sneak the leg through.

Du Vale pushes Gypsy off looking to stand but Gypsy dives back in and keeps control.
Gypsy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Du Vale knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Gypsy is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Du Vale tries to kick Gypsy off but Gypsy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Gypsy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Marc Du Vale comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Du Vale has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
