Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jason Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jason Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Coleman!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes throws a front kick aimed at Coleman's knee but Coleman avoids it well.
Mendes blocks the body kick.
Mendes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Coleman back to the cage. Mendes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mendes as he avoids it easily.
Coleman scores with a sloppy right hand. Mendes should have avoided that one.


It looks like Jason Mendes has been cut.

Mendes has closed the distance and engaged Coleman in a clinch.

Mendes gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Coleman regains full guard. Nicely done.

Mendes won't allow Coleman to sweep him here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mendes tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Coleman is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Mendes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Coleman on the ground.
Coleman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Coleman holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Coleman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendes's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coleman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Coleman stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mendes as he jumps to the side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Coleman closes the distance and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jason Mendes will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Coleman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mendes half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Mendes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Coleman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendes's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mendes wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Coleman darts in and clinches Mendes up against the cage.

Mendes works on Coleman's body with a couple of short punches.

Coleman breaks the clinch.
Mendes blocks the body kick.
Mendes throws a sloppy head kick and Coleman moves out of range easily.
Coleman misses with a series of wild punches.
Mendes lands with a shot to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mendes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mendes can't keep his opponent in guard - Coleman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Coleman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Coleman thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Coleman is trying to control. Mendes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mendes is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Coleman has latched onto it... Big trouble! Coleman pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Mendes is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Coleman!
