PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Stelling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexander comes into the arena with Superheroes blaring out of the sound system. Stelling has chosen London Calling as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jack Stelling will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Michael Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jack Stelling !
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stelling fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Stelling lands a high kick!
Stelling is looking to clinch but Alexander is avoiding it.

Alexander drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stelling working a defensive guard here.
Stelling has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The Hut - $50. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Alexander has gone for a leg lock! Stelling slips out almost immediately though and dives into Alexander's guard.
Alexander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stelling lands a couple of digs.
Alexander looking for a sweep. Not yet Alexander, not yet.
Stelling is fighting to break Alexander's control of his arms but Alexander is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Alexander closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Stelling did well to prevent Alexander getting side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stelling is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alexander pulls his head out easily.
Alexander looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Alexander drops an elbow to the side of Stelling 's head.
Alexander prevents Stelling from improving his position.
Stelling taking some punishment here, with Alexander in his half guard.
Alexander seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Alexander seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Stelling for as long as he can get away with.
Alexander has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Alexander.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Alexander is looking for a kimura but Stelling is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alexander to get the leverage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Alexander knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stelling on the ground.

Alexander is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stelling defends it well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alexander in particular looking to stall.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Stelling tries to clinch but Alexander moves out of range.
Alexander tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stelling swivels and escapes.
Stelling dives in for a single leg takedown but Alexander sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Alexander throws a hook but Stelling blocks it.
Stelling feints the counter takedown.
Alexander looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stelling has a takedown stuffed.
Michael Alexander has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Stelling .

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Alexander throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stelling dives in and grabs Alexander's left leg, looking for a takedown. Alexander pushes down on Stelling 's head and hops out.
Stelling throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Alexander.
Alexander lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Alexander closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stelling quickly recovers to half guard.
Alexander seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Alexander continues to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alexander wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stelling keeps working.

Stelling has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Alexander is on him like a limpet, forcing Stelling back against the cage.
Stelling stops a takedown attempt from Alexander.
Alexander goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Stelling escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Alexander.
Stelling is breathing heavily.
Stelling is working to avoid the ground and pound but Alexander connects with a decent elbow.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Alexander cracks Stelling with a big right hand but Stelling just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Alexander swings around for an armbar but Stelling sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Alexander's guard.
Stelling loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Alexander is controlling Stelling 's posture.

Alexander has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Stelling is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alexander is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Stelling can't fight it off and eventually Alexander manages to take the fight to the floor. Stelling looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Alexander stands up over Stelling , holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Alexander looking to sit in guard and control but Stelling gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Stelling working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Michael Alexander overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alexander has a closed guard, preventing Stelling from standing up.

Alexander throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Stelling escapes and throws Alexander's legs to the side, diving into side control!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Stelling trying to control the position but Alexander is working away.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Alexander closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Alexander tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stelling smiles and moves away.
Stelling scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Alexander lands a two punch combo.
Stelling takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Alexander scores with the left hand. Stelling knows he should have avoided that one.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Alexander.
Alexander is putting a hurting on Stelling here, landing some big shots from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Alexander dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Alexander lands a nice shot that snaps Stelling 's head back.
Stelling tries to clinch there but Alexander circles away.
Stelling closes the distance and clinches up with Alexander, looking for a takedown. Stelling pushes Alexander against the cage but Alexander circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Alexander fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Stelling is out of range.

Alexander prevents Stelling from standing back up.
Stelling takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Alexander passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stelling wants to control but Alexander is having none of it.

Stelling takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Alexander looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Alexander is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Stelling can do to turn this around?
Stelling tries to buck Alexander off but he can't manage it.
Alexander takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Alexander cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Alexander jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Stelling is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Stelling and Alexander has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Stelling takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Alexander is working Stelling over with some ground and pound from side control.
Alexander moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Alexander wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stelling keeps working.
Michael Alexander is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Alexander cracks Stelling with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Jack Stelling has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A lull in the action here as Alexander stalls from top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alexander continues to hold on tight.
Alexander lands an elbow.
Alexander looks up at the clock and then as Stelling takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alexander smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Alexander in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Michael Alexander showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Alexander has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
