PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hayden Francis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaco Pastorious (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jaco Pastorious will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hayden Francis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaco Pastorious!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Pastorious with that takedown attempt.
Pastorious fails in his attempt to clinch.

Francis darts in and clinches Pastorious up against the cage.

Pastorious has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Francis uses from the top position.

Pastorious had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Francis defends it easily.
Francis postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Francis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Francis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Francis tries to free his leg and advance position but Pastorious is retaining full guard.
Francis forces his way into half guard.
Francis is thwarting Pastorious's attempts to control the position.
Francis works his way into side control.
Pastorious parries the strikes from Francis easily there. Francis is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Pastorious to escape.

Francis tries for a kimura but Pastorious is defending well.
Francis working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Francis taking a breather here.
Pastorious tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Francis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pastorious really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Francis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Francis is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Pastorious is not content to let Francis control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Francis happy to just control the position for now.
The ground and pound from Francis seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pastorious tries to bench press Francis off him but Francis keeps the position.
Pastorious sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Francis seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Francis thows a huge punch but Pastorious dodges it nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Pastorious forces Francis back against the cage and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Francis just leaning against Pastorious, taking a breather.
Francis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pastorious pulls his leg out and moves away.
Francis tries to close the distance and clinch but Pastorious swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pastorious shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pastorious showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Francis pushes Pastorious off looking to stand but Pastorious dives back in and keeps control.
Francis tries to roll over but Pastorious keeps him under control.
Pastorious works his way into full mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pastorious takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hayden Francis will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Francis stuffs the takedown.
Francis misses with a takedown attempt - Pastorious sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Francis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pastorious tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Francis is in Pastorious's guard.

Pastorious wants to stand and escape. He's got his foot on Francis's hips, looking to push off. But Francis grabs a hold of the leg and drops back for an ankle lock! It's hard to tell if he's got it. Both fighters look composed - OH, not anymore they don't! Pastorious screams like a kid who's trapped his fingers in the car door and taps out! Yikes, that must have hurt - hopefully it's not snapped anything!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Hayden Francis!
