PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jojo Plata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plata throws the kick towards the body but Aldo avoids it.
Aldo swinging wildly here.
Plata throws a nice looking combination but Aldo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Plata forces Aldo back against the cage and clinches.

Aldo wants the takedown. Plata is fighting it off but Aldo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Plata's guard against the cage.
Plata seems keen to control Aldo's posture.
Aldo trying to control but Plata is working from the bottom.
Plata controls Aldo momentarily but Aldo frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Aldo tries to free his leg and advance position but Plata is retaining full guard.
Aldo throws a big right hand that misses.
Plata pulls Aldo in close to his closed guard and prevents Aldo from doing any damage or advancing position.
Aldo won't allow Plata to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Aldo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Plata napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Aldo wants to control but Plata is keeping him busy.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Aldo thows a huge punch but Plata dodges it nicely.
Plata on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Plata is looking to escape.
Aldo is thwarting Plata's attempts to control the position.
Aldo tries to stand but can't do so whilst Plata controls his leg.
Plata tries to roll over but Aldo keeps him under control.

Aldo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Plata keeping hold of Aldo's head, controlling as best he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Aldo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Aldo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Aldo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Plata smiles and moves away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Plata pushes Aldo up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Aldo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Plata manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Aldo on his heels. He'll look to pass Aldo's guard now, I'm sure.
Aldo is trying to control the position but Plata postures up.
Plata works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Plata is trying to control the action in half guard but Aldo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Plata moves into full mount! Aldo won't be happy about that!
Plata fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
