PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Douglas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominik Kokoszka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Douglas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Go For a Soda by Kim Mitchell. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Douglas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dominik Kokoszka!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kokoszka walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Douglas throws a head kick but Kokoszka moves out of range.
Douglas goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Douglas pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Douglas throws a hook to the side of Kokoszka's head but Kokoszka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Kokoszka takes the fight into the clinch.
Douglas lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Kokoszka pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Douglas tries a head kick but it misses.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Douglas checks a leg kick.
Kokoszka lands a jab to the nose.


It looks like Jack Douglas has been cut.
Nice defenses there by Douglas.
A lazy left from Douglas finds it's target.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Good standup being displayed there by Kokoszka as he connects with a hook.
Douglas closes the distance and clinches up with Kokoszka, looking for a takedown. Douglas pushes Kokoszka against the cage but Kokoszka circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kokoszka's corner calls for a 1-2. Kokoszka obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Kokoszka throws a leg kick that misses.
Douglas takes one to the chin there.
Douglas lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kokoszka throws a leg kick but Douglas sees it coming and checks it nicely.
And Douglas counters with a quick kick to the body but Kokoszka blocks it.

Kokoszka closes the distance and clinches.
Douglas is looking to break free of the clinch but Kokoszka has double underhooks.
Douglas wants to get back to striking at distance but Kokoszka won't allow it.
Kokoszka doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Douglas gets control of Kokoszka's arms and successfully pulls guard. Douglas will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Douglas wants to sweep but no luck.
Kokoszka seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Douglas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kokoszka defends well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Douglas tries to land a front kick but Kokoszka steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Douglas looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Douglas lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kokoszka will feel that in the morning.

Jack Douglas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kokoszka ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Douglas drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Douglas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kokoszka's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Douglas will probably get the nod.

Douglas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kokoszka is on top in guard.

Kokoszka got a little sloppy there for a moment and Douglas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kokoszka has managed to get both his arms back between Douglas's legs - danger averted.
