PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cuneyt Arkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Strong Omar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cuneyt Arkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Strong Omar!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Arkin or perhaps it was just good defense by Omar, which made it look bad.
Arkin sets himself, and Omar steps forward looking for the clinch! Arkin avoids it this time.
Omar throws a series of punches but Arkin avoids them all with ease.
Omar shoots in and drives through. Arkin sprawls well.

Omar drives through and clinches with Arkin against the cage.
Arkin can't get the takedown.

Omar lands a takedown into guard.

Omar gets to his feet. Arkin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Omar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Arkin is working for takedown but Omar is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cuneyt Arkin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Arkin misses with a punch on the inside.

Omar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Omar fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Omar goes for a double leg but Arkin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Arkin continues to drive forward.
Arkin could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Arkin closes the distance and clinches up with Omar, looking for a takedown. Arkin pushes Omar against the cage but Omar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Omar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Omar is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Arkin appears to be looking for a big counter.

Arkin wants to take the fight to the mat but Omar manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Arkin is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Arkin lands with a left to the head.
Arkin looking for a takedown.

Omar drags the fight down to the ground.
Omar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Arkin is one step ahead there.
Omar doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Arkin trying to control the position from guard on top but Omar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Omar wants to get back to his feet but Arkin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Omar seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've been hearing good reports from Arkin's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Omar wants to sweep but no luck.
Omar wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Arkin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Omar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Arkin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Arkin is looking to stand back up but Omar counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Arkin.

Arkin is trying to stand up here but Omar is controlling him well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Arkin wants to control but Omar is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Strong Omar dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Omar scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Omar is trying to control. Arkin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Arkin is trying to maintain the position but Omar is very close to passing his half guard.
Omar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Arkin keeps working.
Omar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Arkin pushes Omar off looking to stand but Omar dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Omar is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Omar clinches up with Arkin and pushes him back against the cage.
Omar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Arkin drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Omar gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Arkin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Omar avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Arkin jumps guard but Omar stands there with Arkin around his waist. Arkin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cuneyt Arkin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Omar has clasped his hands together around Arkin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Arkin is looking for a sweep.

Omar decides to stand back up.
Arkin is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Omar.


It looks like Cuneyt Arkin has been cut.

Arkin is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Omar has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Arkin is trying to keep an underhook but Omar manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Arkin scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Omar manages to mount him!
Oh Arkin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Arkin seems to have got his legs back now.
Omar slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Omar has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Arkin.

Omar is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Arkin is defending well though. Omar let's go of the attempt for now.

Omar is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Arkin is defending well though. Omar let's go of the attempt for now.
Omar somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Omar connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Arkin to escape the position.
Arkin turns into Omar and is now in his guard.

Omar is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Arkin is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Omar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Arkin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Strong Omar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Omar has a takedown stuffed.
Arkin shoots in for a takedown but Omar shows good takedown defense.
Strong Omar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Arkin counters with a single leg into guard. Omar didn't expect that.

Omar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Omar passes Arkin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Arkin wants to control but Omar is keeping busy.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Omar lands a nice short elbow.
Omar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Arkin keeps working.
Omar lands strikes from half guard.
Omar winds up and cracks Arkin with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Omar slips a nice elbow through Arkin's hands, connecting with Arkin's forehead.

Omar is controlling the pace.

Omar wants to work for an arm triangle but Arkin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Omar tries to pass to full mount but Arkin defends it.
Cuneyt Arkin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Omar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Omar is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Strong Omar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Omar wants to pass the guard but Arkin is defending well.
Omar throwing shots but Arkin is blocking nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Omar is keen to just control but Arkin is a slippery customer.

Arkin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Omar pulls his head out easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Strong Omar is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Arkin is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Omar.

And that's the end of the fight!
Strong Omar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Omar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
