Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Knapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Knapp is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Go to Sleep. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Knapp misses.
Mercer lands a nice hook to Knapp's body. Knapp takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Knapp darts in looking for a takedown but Mercer gets double underhooks and turns Knapp into the cage.
Mercer moves away from the strike by Knapp.

Knapp has managed to clinch.

Knapp forces Mercer back against the cage and clinches.
Knapp tries to work over Mercer's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mercer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Knapp stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Mercer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mercer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Knapp misses with a jab, cross combination.
Knapp throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mercer sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mercer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Mercer is looking to counter the offense by Knapp and move into the clinch.
Knapp throws out a loose jab but Mercer uses good head movement to avoid it.

Mercer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Knapp manages to avoid it.

Mercer pushes Knapp up against the cage in a clinch.
Knapp seems to have recovered his senses.
Mercer lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Mercer tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Knapp's elbow.
Knapp wants to get back to striking at distance but Mercer won't allow it.

Mercer goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Knapp looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Knapp is trying to force a seperation but Mercer has the dominant position.

Knapp stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Knapp tries to circle away but Mercer has him pinned against the cage.
Mercer can't find room to land a body shot as Knapp controls the action.

Knapp's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mercer thuds his right hand into Knapp's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Mercer lands a front kick.
Knapp tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Knapp looks for the body kick but Mercer saw that one coming.
Mercer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Knapp shoots in for a takedown but Mercer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Knapp misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mercer rushes Knapp and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Knapp has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mercer.

Mercer cracks Knapp with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Mercer has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Knapp to stand back up!

Knapp looks to throw the jab but Mercer is out of range.
A big right from Knapp misses.
Knapp cracks Mercer with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Knapp throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mercer buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Mercer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Mercer feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Knapp sprawling to the canvas! Knapp rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Mercer finish him?!

That has opened up Peter Knapp's cut even more.
Knapp walks straight into a right hand from Mercer - that's dropped him! Mercer jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Knapp from any more punishment! Knapp complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
