Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shelby Key (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hy Per (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shelby Key!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Hy Per!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Francis DeMontford and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Per closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Key quickly recovers to half guard.
Per content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Per is stalling here. Key is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Per seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Key has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Key creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Key tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Key thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Per's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Per looks to move to half guard but instead Key has passed into mount! Damn!
Per reaches up to try and control the position but Key seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Per rolls and tries to escape and now Key has his back!
Per is trying to break free.
Key looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
You can see the frustration on Per's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Key doesn't have the hooks in and Per manages to turn into his guard.
Key keeping full guard, as Per tries to pass.
Key preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Key throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Key has his feet on Per's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Hy Per seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Per effectively controlling the action here.
Per prevents a body shot from Key.

Per pulls Key into guard.
Per is trying to hold Key in close to prevent damage but Key has managed to pass into half guard.
Key wants to control but Per is keeping him busy.
Per has his hands clasped together around Key's back. He's all about the action.
Per has a hand on Key's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Key takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Per wants to control but Key is having none of it.
Per is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Key is staying active.
Per really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Key. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Per keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Per is trying to stand but he's just given Key his back.
Key really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Per preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Key.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shelby Key will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Per circles away from the clinch attempt.

Per drives through and clinches with Key against the cage.

Per drags the fight down to the ground.

Per looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Key passes into half guard.
Per is trying to control but can't.
Per tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Key manages to move to mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Per working to try and regain half guard.
Shelby Key overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Per sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Per strikes from the bottom but Key uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Per tries to improve position but can't.
The strikes coming from Key are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Key will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Per tries to bench press Key off him but Key keeps the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Per is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Key is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Per bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Per sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Per wants to stand and escape but instead Key has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Per pulls Key in to control the position.

Per pushes Key off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Key moves in looking to clinch but Per pushes him off.

Per gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Per blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Per turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Key sneaks out the side door and pushes Per away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Key wants to clinch.
Per throws a counter combo.
Per throws a sloppy head kick and Key moves out of range easily.
Per swinging wildly here.
Key feinted with a counter takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Key tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Per swivels and escapes.
Per with the counter takedown but Key avoids it easily.

Per shoots in and bounces Key off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Key pushes Per off and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice cross by Per.

Per fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Key sprawls well initially but Per persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Per scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hy Per showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Key gets caught napping as Per dives in and scores a takedown. Key manages to retain guard.
Key trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Per stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Key fails with the takedown
and Per counters with a straight right hand.
Key avoids the head kick by Per.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Per.

Per swings around for an armbar but Key sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Per's guard.
Per trying to control the position here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Per has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Key has passed into side control.
Per isn't going anywhere.
Per is trying to work for a sweep but Key has mounted him!

Key working for a guillotine from mount but Per is in no mood to give up.
Per tries to control the position but Key now has his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Per tries to escape the position.

Key has the hooks in. Per is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Per trying to survive by controlling the hands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Key not allowing Per to control his hands.
Per trying to get back to his feet but Key is in full control for now.
Key struggling to land strikes to the head as Per covers up.
Per trying to control the hands but Key won't let him.

Key is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Per has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Key controlling well, preventing Per from escaping the position.
Per trying to control but not successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Key tightening his grip on Per, looking for the choke.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shelby Key.
I think Key has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
