PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kelson Kawai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kari Parisyen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parisyen has chosen Hari ng Tondo as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Kari Parisyen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kelson Kawai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kari Parisyen!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawai lands a right hook to the body.
Kelson Kawai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slapping body kick lands there for Kawai.
Parisyen throws a hook but Kawai avoids it easily.
Kawai lands a nice hook to Parisyen's body. Parisyen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Parisyen has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Parisyen feints and as Kawai raises his hands in defense, Parisyen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Parisyen drops back looking for a leg! Kawai is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kawai manages to kick Parisyen off! Parisyen jumps back into Kawai's guard.

Parisyen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kawai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Parisyen closes the distance and clinches.

Parisyen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kawai pushes Parisyen off but Parisyen dives into side control.
Parisyen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Parisyen throws an elbow but Kawai slips to the side and avoids it well.

Kari Parisyen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Parisyen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kawai looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Parisyen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kawai down.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parisyen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kawai pushes Parisyen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Parisyen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Parisyen cracks Kawai with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Parisyen immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Kawai is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Parisyen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kari Parisyen!
After winning the bout, Kari Parisyen thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
