PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pitt Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alfredo Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alfredo Stone will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pitt Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alfredo Stone!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Colin Fotheringham and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel blocks a head kick by Stone.
Stone throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Steel misses the body punch
and Stone counters with a one-two to the body.
Steel dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Stone. That did some damage!
Stone is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Steel counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Stone pushes Steel off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stone gets a clinch.

Stone wants the takedown. Steel is fighting it off but Stone persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Steel's guard against the cage.

Steel seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Steel is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Steel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Still in half guard, Steel seems content to control.
Steel takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Stone wants to control but Steel is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pitt Steel will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Stone tries to close the distance and clinch but Steel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stone just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromSteel.

Stone fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Steel sprawls well initially but Stone persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Steel wants to get back to full guard.
Steel gets full guard.
Steel lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Steel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Steel wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Stone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Steel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Steel sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stone's guard.
Still in half guard, Steel seems content to control.
Stone on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Steel uses his free foot to push down on Stone's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Stone.

Steel lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Stone is bucking up trying to escape but Steel cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Steel is landing with some decent strikes but Stone is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Steel breaks from Stone's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Steel has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Stone's face.
Stone is breathing heavily.
Steel lands a couple of good shots and Stone has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Steel swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Stone shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Steel manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Steel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stone's guard.

Steel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Stone's head.
Steel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Steel stands up over Stone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Steel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Steel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Steel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Stone for as long as he can get away with.

Pitt Steel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Stone tries to get to full guard but Steel has control of the leg.
Steel lands with a punch from half guard.
Steel seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Stone has hold of Steel's hands but Steel slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Steel trying to control the pace.
Steel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Stone wants to get back to his feet.
Steel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Steel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
