PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Smakota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Innes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander Smakota!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kyle Innes!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smakota tries to close the distance and clinch but Innes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Innes stuffs the takedown attempt from Smakota. Smakota gets slowly back to his feet.
Smakota has his takedown stuffed
and Innes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've been informed that Innes has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Smakota ducks under a wild hook from Innes.
Innes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Innes wants to clinch up but Smakota keeps it at a distance.
Smakota fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smakota throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Innes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smakota swivels and escapes.
Smakota lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Smakota throws a body punch but Innes moves out of range.
It seemed like Innes was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Innes looking to score a takedown here. Smakota is defending well but Innes drives through and ends up in Smakota's guard.

Innes looking to pass the guard.
Smakota utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Innes loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Innes stopping the sweep attempt from Smakota.

Innes advances to half guard.

Innes is working for a submission of some sort.
Innes scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Innes not doing much here.
Innes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smakota with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smakota is trying to control but can't.

Innes is looking for a kimura but Smakota is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Innes to get the leverage.
Innes is looking to take a break and control but Smakota is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Innes not doing much here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Innes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smakota keeps working.
Smakota preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Smakota is not content to let Innes control the position.
Smakota keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Innes trying to control the action but Smakota is working from the bottom.
Smakota tries to roll over but Innes keeps him under control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Innes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Smakota wants to get back to full guard but Innes has mounted him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Innes dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Smakota avoids the body shot from Innes.

Smakota tries to sprawl but Innes drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Innes is taking a breather. Smakota says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Innes is looking to advance position but Smakota won't allow it.
Smakota knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Innes on the ground.
Innes passes to full mount!
Smakota wants to control but Innes is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smakota is wriggling around trying to escape.

Innes working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Smakota looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Innes! Submission of the night perhaps?
