PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Kenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banner kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Pump Up The Jam. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruce Banner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 43 - 28 - 5, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrick Kenzie!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenzie falls off balance throwing a combination

and Banner counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kenzie!

Banner throws a strike aimed at the side of Kenzie's head but Kenzie avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kenzie tries to improve position but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Banner trying to control the action but Kenzie is working from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Banner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Banner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kenzie misses with an uppercut. Banner saw that one coming.

and Banner counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kenzie!

Kenzie sneaks out the side door and pushes Banner away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Kenzie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Banner was well out of range. Poor timing from Kenzie.

Banner throws a lazy right hand but Kenzie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Banner on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Kenzie throws a hook but Banner blocks it.
Banner shoots in but Kenzie avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Banner looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Kenzie fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Banner looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kenzie throws a left and a right that both miss

and Banner counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Banner.

Banner throws an elbow that misses. Kenzie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Banner's guard. Nice move by Kenzie!

Banner misses with some punches.
Kenzie lands a hook to the side of the head.

Kenzie breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kenzie lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kenzie, as that shot connected.

and Kenzie counters with a right hand to the body.
Kenzie throws a body punch but Banner moves out of range.
Banner throws a looping overhand right but Kenzie ducks down to avoid it.

and Banner counters with a single leg into guard. Kenzie didn't expect that.

Kenzie has his feet on Banner's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kenzie tries to bum rush Banner with a series of wild strikes but Banner uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Banner changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

A looping hook to the body misses from Kenzie. Banner does a little dance to reset his feet.

Banner throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kenzie tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Banner is in Kenzie's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Banner stands up over Kenzie, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Banner wants to control from the top but Kenzie keeps moving.
Kenzie seems keen to control Banner's posture.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kenzie lands with a hook. Banner tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Kenzie connects with a body shot.
Banner fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kenzie cracks Banner with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Kenzie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Banner swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Banner drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kenzie sprawls and moves away.
Banner is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kenzie.

Banner changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kenzie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Banner looks up at the clock and then as Kenzie takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Banner smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

BOOM! Banner connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Bruce Banner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Banner sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Banner looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Kenzie is looking to get to half guard.

Banner throws a body shot but no joy.
Kenzie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Banner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kenzie lands with a shot to the body.
Banner takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Kenzie uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Banner.

Banner appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Banner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kenzie manages to avoid it.
Kenzie takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Kenzie is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Banner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kenzie but Kenzie pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Banner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kenzie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Banner's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kenzie wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kenzie tries to clinch there but Banner circles away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Banner uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kenzie.
Kenzie misses with a few strikes there.
Kenzie lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Kenzie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Banner lands a jab to Kenzie's midsection.
Banner swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Kenzie counters with a nice uppercut.
A punch lands to the side of Banner 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Banner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Banner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
