PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Beck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mariano Abel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beck kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Adventure Club - Do I See Color. Mariano Abel is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcus Beck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mariano Abel!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beck dives in and scores a takedown into Abel's guard.
Beck trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Beck drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Beck jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Beck tries to free his leg and advance position but Abel is retaining full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Beck slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Abel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Beck is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Beck goes for a double leg but Abel avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Abel continues to drive forward.
Abel scoring well with a low kick there.
Abel with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Abel throws a leg kick but Beck sees it coming and moves out of range.
As Abel looks to move away, Beck throws a big counter combo bu Abel just gets out of the way.
Abel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A combination from Beck does no damage.

Beck drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Beck in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Beck goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Abel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Beck but great work by Abel.
Beck sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Abel wants to stand up but Beck is controlling the position.

Beck has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Abel escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Abel!
Abel tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Abel wants to stand but Beck is controlling his posture from full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Beck is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Abel defends well.

Beck escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Abel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Beck has a closed guard, preventing Abel from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Abel counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Abel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Abel wants it to stay on the feet.

Beck changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Abel tries to avoid it but Beck manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Abel to the ground. Abel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Abel wants to stand and escape but Beck is having none of it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We've been hearing good reports from Beck's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Beck has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Abel pushes Beck off looking to stand but Beck dives back in and keeps control.
Beck thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Abel's head.
Beck uses his free foot to push down on Abel's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Abel.
Beck throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Abel because Beck loaded up on that one.

Beck is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Abel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Abel shrugs it off.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close second round but Mariano Abel will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Beck wants to free his trapped foot but Abel is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Beck is nestled in close to Abel, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Marcus Beck really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that V-Mask Clothing (10%) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
