PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jonqw Fray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Koski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koski has chosen Accept - Head Over Heels as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonqw Fray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Juan Koski!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koski displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fray throws out the jab.
Fray defending well as Koski loads up on a big left hand.
Horrible takedown attempt by Fray or perhaps it was just good defense by Koski, which made it look bad.
It seemed like Koski was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

A telegraphed right hand from Fray misses the target.
That kick from Fray tenderised Koski's leg. Koski is trying to keep his angry face on.

Fray gets the takedown into side control.

Fray is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Koski has escaped the position, nice work there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fight stays on the outside here - Koski looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jonqw Fray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fray takes a swing at Koski's ribcage but misses.
Fray throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Fray with a nice cross.
A left lands for Koski.
Koski takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A chopping leg kick lands by Koski.
Koski misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fray changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

and Fray counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fray.
Fray might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Fray takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Fray is looking to score with low kicks.
Koski throws a hook to the side of Fray's head but Fray sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Fray's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Koski connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Fray scrambles back to his feet.
Koski bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Koski throws a quick inside leg kick.
Koski has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Fray takes a swing at Koski's ribcage but misses.
Fray misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Koski.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Koski! But no joy.
Koski catches Fray with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!


It looks like Jonqw Fray has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Koski lands a nice shot to the body.
Fray misses with a leg kick.
Fray dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Fray looking to score a takedown here. Koski is defending well but Fray drives through and ends up in Koski's guard.

Fray is looking to pass into half guard but Koski pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Koski is in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jonqw Fray will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Koski misses with an uppercut. Fray saw that one coming.
Koski moves out of range of the body kick from Fray.

Fray changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Koski tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fray was well out of range. Poor timing from Koski.

As Fray backs off Koski throws a huge counter combo but Fray manages to avoid it all.
Koski has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Koski there as he acknowledges the shot.
Koski connects with a body shot that sends Fray's belly button to the back.

Koski throws a looping overhand right but Fray ducks down to avoid it.

Fray closes the distance and clinches up with Koski, looking for a takedown. Fray pushes Koski against the cage but Koski circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Koski checks a leg kick.
Fray connects with a good right hand that stumbles Koski. Koski circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Koski checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Fray throws out a leg kick but Koski moves out of range and Fray only half commits.
A big right from Fray misses.
Fray with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Koski to score with a decent uppercut.

Koski closes the distance and pushes Fray back into the cage.
Koski throws a head punch that misses.
A head punch on the inside from Koski fails to land.
Fray wants a takedown but no success here.

Koski lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Koski breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fray cracks a nice hook into Koski's ribs.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Koski dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Koski looks to land a left hand but Fray moved out of range nicely.
Fray tries to counter with a takedown but Koski is quick to defend against it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Koski. That's going to slow Fray down.
Koski fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Fray has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Fray takes a swing at Koski's ribcage but misses.
Koski throws a nice looking combination but Fray bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Koski throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Fray stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Koski throws a jab but it's blocked by Fray.
Fray misses with a body shot.
Fray tries to score a power double leg takedown but Koski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fray somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonqw Fray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Koski, as that shot connected.
Koski takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Koski throws a sloppy head kick and Fray moves out of range easily.
Koski takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Fray throws a wild body kick that Koski sees coming a mile off.
Koski swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Fray.
Koski fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Fray shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Koski napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Fray wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Koski, who protects the arm well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Juan Koski showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Koski has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
A bone on bone clash there as Fray blocks the leg kick.

Koski is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Fray with a body shot.

Fray is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Koski is pressed up against the cage. Fray has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Koski down to the mat. Koski avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Koski slips under a jab.
Koski throws out a counter right but Fray avoids it with no problem.
Oh Fray is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Koski closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Fray! Koski dives in looking to finish! Fray is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Juan Koski!
In his post fight interview, Juan Koski started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
