PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cain Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gus Pappas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Hell's Bells- AC/DC. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gus Pappas!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Pappas. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pappas fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Jones attempts a counter takedown but Pappas avoids it well and moves away.

Pappas gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jones postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pappas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jones, into his guard.
Jones wants to sweep here but Pappas controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pappas controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pappas is one step ahead there.

Jones seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Jones wants to take the fight to the mat but Pappas manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Pappas.

Pappas rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Pappas is looking to break free of the clinch but Jones has double underhooks.

Pappas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pappas smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Pappas tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pappas keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pappas takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.
Cain Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into Pappas's guard.
Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Jones preventing the sweep.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pappas is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Pappas controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.
Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pappas's guard.

Pappas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Pappas takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Pappas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gus Pappas is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I've got Pappas winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
