PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Quessey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Mcracken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcracken is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Onra - I Wanna Go Back. Phil Mcracken has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pierre Quessey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Phil Mcracken!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quessey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Mcracken tries to get to full guard but Quessey has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Quessey connects with a nice short shot to Mcracken's temple.

Quessey winds up and cracks Mcracken with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Quessey throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mcracken has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Quessey is pressing down on Mcracken's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mcracken is holding on for now.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mcracken looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Quessey!
Quessey is looking to get back to his feet here but Mcracken is keeping cool and he's managed to take Quessey's back.

Mcracken can't escape the position, to get back to his feet.
Quessey has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

I really don't envy Quessey right now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mcracken slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Quessey moves to clinch but Mcracken breaks away

and Mcracken counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Quessey!
Quessey bucks up and tries to throw Mcracken off but instead Mcracken has got his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite having Quessey's back, Mcracken says stuff this ground business - let's go for a knockout! Quessey seems baffled but is happy to be out of the difficult position!

Quessey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mcracken on the ground.

Quessey has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mcracken is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Quessey.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mcracken changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Quessey looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Phil Mcracken showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Quessey wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Mcracken is now in half guard.
Quessey is looking to control Mcracken's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Quessey avoid being mounted?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Quessey is desperately trying to improve his position but Mcracken has a good base and remains in mount.

Mcracken tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Phil Mcracken comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mcracken has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Phil Mcracken was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
