Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cubert Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lionel Lindsay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Cubert Rua has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cubert Rua !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lionel Lindsay!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Lindsay counters by moving into the clinch.

Lindsay works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Lindsay preventing the sweep.
Lindsay is looking to work some ground and pound but Rua has wrist control.
Lindsay is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lindsay trying to control but Rua is working from the bottom.

Rua looking for a guillotine here but Lindsay defends easily.

Rua working for a triangle but Lindsay defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rua wants to sweep here but Lindsay controlling him for the moment.

Lindsay wants to control from the top but Rua keeps moving.
Lindsay passes Rua 's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Lindsay is looking for a kimura but Rua is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lindsay to get the leverage.
Lindsay thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Lindsay is working for a kimura but Rua is defending it quite comfortably.

Lindsay is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Rua to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rua is on top in guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rua won't allow Lindsay to sweep him here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lindsay throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rua was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

and Lindsay counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lindsay.
Lindsay keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rua 's efforts to push away.

Lindsay pulls guard.
Lindsay keeping moving, preventing Rua from controlling successfully.
Lindsay wants to sweep but no luck.
Lindsay is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rua is controlling him.
Lindsay seems keen to control Rua 's posture.

Rua looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Rua drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lindsay looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lindsay looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lindsay!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lindsay tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rua is trying to get back to half guard.

Lindsay is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rua is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Lindsay tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lindsay has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Lindsay working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lionel Lindsay dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Lindsay forces Rua back against the cage and clinches.
Rua misses with a short punch on the inside.

Lindsay breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rua connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Lindsay momentarily.
Lindsay lands a nice shot to the body.
Rua slips a straight right by Lindsay.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lindsay misses with a lunging right hand
and Rua counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Lionel Lindsay has been cut.
Rua lands the left hand.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Lindsay!

Lindsay slips under a jab from Rua .
Rua scores with a sloppy right hand. Lindsay should have avoided that one.
Rua looks to land a left hand but Lindsay moved out of range nicely.
Lindsay changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Rua misses with a hook.

Rua moves forwards but Lindsay connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Rua ducks right into an uppercut from Lindsay.
Rua throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rua tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lindsay was well out of range. Poor timing from Rua .
Nice defenses there by Lindsay.
Lindsay tries a quick counter leg kick but Rua is wise to it.
Rua connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Lindsay takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Rua throws a predictable looking body shot
and Lindsay counters with a good low kick that Rua was not able to check.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rua looks to land a left hand but Lindsay moved out of range nicely.

and Lindsay counters by moving into the clinch.

Lindsay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Lindsay closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lindsay seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rua does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rua trying to get back to full guard but Lindsay takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Lindsay goes for an armbar but Rua turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Rua .
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lindsay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rua is one step ahead there.
Lindsay is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Lindsay is looking to stand back up but Rua counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Lindsay.
Lindsay is not content to let Rua control the position.
Lindsay keeping hold of Rua 's head, controlling as best he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lindsay moves into the clinch.
Rua throws a head punch that misses.
Rua lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Lindsay or not.

Lindsay scores with a shot to the side of Rua 's head.

Lionel Lindsay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Lindsay throws a body shot but no joy.
Lindsay staying out of range there.

Rua is looking for a sweep. Lindsay is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lionel Lindsay has got the better of the ground game so far.

Lindsay is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Lindsay is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rua sees it coming and defends easily.
Lindsay is nestled in close to Rua , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rua is not content to let Lindsay control the position.
Rua is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Lindsay wants to pass to mount but Rua is defending the position.

Lindsay is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rua has managed to free his arm - good work.

Cubert Rua is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rua enables Lindsay to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rua manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rua looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lindsay working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rua 's head.
Lindsay postures up and lands a big shot to Rua 's brow.
Lindsay has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
