PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ichi Takeshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Schilling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schilling has chosen Sweet Caroline-Neil Diamond as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ichi Takeshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Schilling!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takeshi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Schilling sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Takeshi somewhat.

Takeshi throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Schilling was covering up waiting for the punch and Takeshi finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Takeshi tries to free his leg and advance position but Schilling is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takeshi is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Schilling has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Takeshi is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Schilling.
Schilling is looking to regain half guard here but Takeshi keeps moving and retains side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schilling is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Takeshi is pressing down on Schilling's thigh, looking to free his foot. Schilling is holding on for now.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Schilling gets caught napping as Takeshi dives in and scores a takedown. Schilling manages to retain guard.

Schilling working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Takeshi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Takeshi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Takeshi is sitting in close to Schilling's body. Schilling has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Takeshi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Takeshi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Schilling.

Joe Schilling decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Ichi Takeshi spoke after the fight, saying 'Son of a!!!! great shame I great shame Sorry I need more strong in spirit. '.
