PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sammer Bammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenichi Shirahama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shirahama has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sammer Bammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Kenichi Shirahama!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shirahama closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bammer circles away.
Shirahama takes a swing at Bammer's ribcage but misses.
Shirahama looks winded!

Bammer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bammer showed some decent athleticism there.
Bammer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shirahama keeps working.
Shirahama tries to get to full guard but Bammer has control of the leg.
Bammer performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Shirahama keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Bammer throws a big right hand that misses.
Bammer connects with a couple of short punches.
Bammer stops Shirahama from standing up.
Bammer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Bammer works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Bammer trying to control the action but Shirahama is working from the bottom.

Bammer seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shirahama is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bammer's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bammer's back!

Bammer covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Bammer breaks Shirahama's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Bammer feints and as Shirahama raises his hands in defense, Bammer changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bammer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Shirahama is being controlled here.
Shirahama is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bammer's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bammer is working for a submission of some sort.

Bammer is looking for a kimura but Shirahama is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bammer to get the leverage.
Bammer wants to free his trapped foot but Shirahama is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Bammer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bammer trying to control from half guard but Shirahama is working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bammer is working for a kimura but Shirahama is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bammer scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Bammer stuffs the takedown.
Bammer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bammer fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Shirahama on the side of the head.
Shirahama stuffs the takedown.
Shirahama throws a lazy right hand but Bammer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Bammer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bammer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shirahama can do to turn this around?

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bammer.

Shirahama is breathing heavily.
Shirahama shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Shirahama has his takedown stuffed
and Bammer counters with a stiff right hand.

Bammer fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bammer lands a right hook to the body.
Danga de danga de dang - Bammer scores with a four punch combination!
Bammer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Shirahama avoids it really well and circles away.
And Shirahama tries to counter it with a takedown but Bammer pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Sammer Bammer is winning the standup battle so far.
Shirahama rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bammer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Shirahama looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bammer shoots for a double leg takedown but Shirahama sprawls well. He's pushed Bammer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bammer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shirahama as he jumps to the side.
Shirahama changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Shirahama displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bammer.

Bammer shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bammer was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Shirahama managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Bammer.

Bammer tries for a kimura but Shirahama is defending well.
Bammer grinds an elbow into Shirahama's temple.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shirahama is trying to control Bammer's posture but Bammer avoids it.

Bammer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shirahama has escaped the position, nice work there.
Shirahama is trying to improve his position.

Bammer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bammer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sammer Bammer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bammer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shirahama knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Bammer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bammer looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bammer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shirahama knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shirahama tries to buck Bammer off but Bammer is having none of it.
Shirahama can't do much from the bottom here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shirahama dodges the ground and pound from Bammer.
Shirahama is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bammer asserts his dominance and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammer Bammer dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Shirahama takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Bammer throws a hook to the side of Shirahama's head but Shirahama sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bammer lands a jab to the nose.

Shirahama gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bammer to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Bammer has gone for a leg lock! Shirahama slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bammer's guard.

Bammer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shirahama can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bammer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shirahama takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Shirahama throws a big elbow that misses.
Shirahama is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Shirahama missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bammer has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Shirahama doesn't defend quickly enough and Bammer has managed to lock this one up! Can Shirahama escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Bammer on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sammer Bammer!
An out of breath Sammer Bammer thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
