PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sanford Fanning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iain Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Reilly's choice of entrance music: Dubliners - Fields of Athenry. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sanford Fanning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Iain Reilly!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reilly throws the left hand but Fanning avoids the punch easily.
Fanning tries to clinch but Reilly moves out of range.
Fanning defending well as Reilly loads up on a big left hand.
Reilly looks to land a left hand but Fanning moved out of range nicely.
Reilly misses with a right hand
and Fanning counters with a good, hard body kick but Reilly shrugs it off.
Reilly closes the distance and clinches up with Fanning, looking for a takedown. Reilly pushes Fanning against the cage but Fanning circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fanning misses the jab.
Reilly shoots in but no luck this time.
Reilly avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A big left from Reilly misses.
Fanning seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Fanning throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Reilly swings for the body but Fanning moves out of range.
It looked like Fanning wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Reilly gets tackled into the cage by Fanning. Fanning maintains the clinch.

Fanning has clasped his hands together around Reilly's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Reilly has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fanning postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Reilly is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The strikes coming from Fanning are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Fanning working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Fanning is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Reilly has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reilly manages to work his way to half guard, despite Fanning's best efforts.

Fanning is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Reilly doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fanning.
Reilly tries to get to full guard but Fanning has control of the leg.
Fanning wants to pass the guard but Reilly is defending well.
Fanning has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Fanning is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Reilly sees it coming and defends easily.
Reilly is looking to improve his position.
Reilly wants to control but Fanning is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Fanning working the head and body with strikes.
Reilly is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Fanning is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Reilly doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fanning.

Reilly keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Fanning is working for a kimura but Reilly is defending it quite comfortably.
Fanning looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Reilly wants to control but Fanning is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Reilly wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reilly gets full guard.
Reilly looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Fanning chips away with some ground and pound.
Reilly not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fanning landing some decent shots from guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reilly can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Reilly is on top in guard.
Fanning is looking to stand up but Reilly isn't so interested in that idea.

Fanning has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reilly can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Reilly throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fanning works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Reilly throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reilly throwing strikes but missing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reilly accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sanford Fanning dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Fanning loads up on a big right hand but Reilly slips the punch.
Fanning is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reilly can do to turn this around?
Fanning takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Reilly lands with a nice body punch.
Reilly throws a left and a right that both miss
and Fanning connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Iain Reilly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fanning. Reilly does a little dance to reset his feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Reilly throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Reilly misses with a straight right.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A head punch on the inside from Reilly fails to land.
Fanning misses with some punches.

Reilly manages to break the clinch.
Reilly misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Fanning counters with a nice uppercut.
Reilly moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fanning slips a jab and a cross from Reilly.
Reilly throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Fanning throws a hook to the side of Reilly's head but Reilly sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Reilly throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Reilly steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fanning.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reilly misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fanning.
Fanning misses with a head kick.
Reilly fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Fanning has closed the distance and engaged Reilly in a clinch.
Fanning throws a head punch that misses.
Reilly's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!


Reilly is rocked!
A left hand lands to the body for Fanning.
Reilly is still on wobbly legs! Can Fanning finish him?
A short uppercut from Fanning.
Fanning dips a shoulder and cracks Reilly with a mighty uppercut! Reilly falls back against the cage and Fanning unloads with a barrage of strikes! Reilly is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Fanning screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sanford Fanning!
An out of breath Sanford Fanning thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
