PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kobe Kage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). West has chosen Roy Jones - Can't be touched as his entrance music. Andrew West will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kobe Kage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andrew West!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West cracks Kage with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
West will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
West misses with a wild body shot.
Kage seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
West staying out of range there.
West is looking to score with low kicks.
Kage is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Kage uses good head movement to avoid the hook from West.
West throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kage sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kage tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but West swivels and escapes.
West feints the counter takedown.
West throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
West looks to land a combination but Kage avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kage shoots in for a double leg but West sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

West shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kage's guard.
Kage manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. West manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
West not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kage trying to control but West is working from the bottom.
Kage postures up.
Kage trying to control the position from guard on top but West is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
West controls Kage momentarily but Kage frees himself.
West is looking to stand up but Kage isn't so interested in that idea.

Kage thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
West trying to keep a closed guard but Kage is proving a slippery customer.
Kage engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kage is pushing down on West's leg trying to pass to half guard. West is fighting to maintain full guard but Kage has managed to sneak the leg through.
Still in half guard, Kage seems content to control.

Kage is working for a kimura but West is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kage is trying to work for a kimura but West is defending well.

Kage is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kage thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed West's head.
West tries to roll over but Kage keeps him under control.

Kage is looking for a kimura but West is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kage to get the leverage.
West trying to control from the bottom.
Kage definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
West trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Kage manages to pass to mount!
Kage looking to finish West with some ground and pound. This is bad for West!
West keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kage is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but West is surviving well by controlling Kage's body position as best he can.

Kage working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kage cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
West is working to get back to half guard.

Kage looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Kage can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as West is looking to escape.

Kage has control of West's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and West regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
West tries to hold on but Kage postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kobe Kage dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nice sprawl there from West as Kage shoots in.
Kage misses with a straight left.
West throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kage dives in and grabs West's left leg, looking for a takedown. West pushes down on Kage's head and hops out.
West has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kage is landing a low percentage of strikes.
The fighters circle momentarily. West darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Kage shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has West pinned against the cage. West gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kobe Kage. That's going to take a lot out of him.
West throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kage half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice uppercut there from West.
Kage misses with a body shot.
West stuns Kage with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from West misses the target.

West decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kobe Kage overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kage moves into full guard.
Kage looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kage is trying to control the position but West postures up.
West has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kage is proving hard to escape from.

West avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
West trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kage's guard.
Kage striking off his back, scoring a few points.
West throws a big right hand that misses.
West tries to free his leg and advance position but Kage is retaining full guard.
Kage wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
West is looking to stand up but Kage won't let him.
Kage throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
West must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
West throws a big elbow that misses.

Kage is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but West frees his head nicely. Oh but Kage has switched to an armbar! West is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Kobe Kage!
