Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ralph Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edward Hunt has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ralph Smith's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ralph Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edward Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hunt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Smith controlling the position well.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smith controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Hunt keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith tries to get to full guard but Hunt has control of the leg.
Hunt trying to control from half guard but Smith is working away.
Smith moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunt is looking to stand up but Smith won't let him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hunt has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.

Hunt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hunt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.

Hunt shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hunt was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smith is looking to reverse the position.
Hunt misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hunt wants to stand but Smith has his arm trapped.
Hunt moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Smith keeping his opponent close.
Smith regains half guard.
Hunt wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
Edward Hunt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunt slaps away a takedown attempt from Smith, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ralph Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hunt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Smith wants to control but Hunt is keeping busy.
Smith tries to get to full guard but Hunt has control of the leg.

Hunt looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith trying to control but Hunt postures up.
Smith is doing well to control the position and prevent Hunt from advancing to side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smith works his way to full guard. Good work.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Smith wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Hunt dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A kick lands to the mid section there for Hunt.
Hunt feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Smith's calf.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hunt moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hunt tries to counter by closing the distance.
Both fighters circling a little - Hunt finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Hunt closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard.

Smith makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hunt moves into the clinch.

Hunt has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smith uses from the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith content to stall in guard here.
Hunt wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.

Hunt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.
Hunt is trying to keep Smith in close.
Hunt is trying to hold Smith in close to prevent damage but Smith has managed to pass into half guard.
Hunt is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hunt as he jumps to the side.
Hunt steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Smith.

Hunt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Hunt from controlling successfully.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hunt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Smith pulls Hunt in close to prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hunt has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hunt wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.
Smith looking to control.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Hunt from controlling successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Smith is wriggling around but Hunt manages to pass to half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hunt lands a head kick. Smith smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Ralph Smith has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Whack! Hunt lands a heavy head kick that drops Smith. The ref tackles Hunt to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Smith was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Edward Hunt!
