PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conor Brophy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rogan Redban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brophy comes to the cage accompanied by The Unicorns - I was Born (a Unicorn). Rogan Redban acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor Brophy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rogan Redban!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brophy stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Nice uppercut there from Brophy.
Redban throws a body shot but no joy.
Brophy lands with a cross.
Brophy throws out a powerful jab.
Brophy closes the distance looking to clinch
and Redban counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Redban has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Brophy finds it's way round the side to connect with Redban's head.
Brophy slips under a jab.
Redban takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Brophy lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Brophy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Redban swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Brophy pushes Redban back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Redban can't find room to land a body shot as Brophy controls the action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brophy manages to break the clinch.
It looks like Brophy has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Nice straight punches there by Redban. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Redban.
Redban throws a right hand that Brophy ducks under and follows up with a left that Brophy also avoids with ease.
Brophy comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Redban misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Brophy with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Redban shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Brophy scores with a hook to the body. Redban takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Brophy avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Brophy changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Redban jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Brophy lands with an overhand left.
Brophy fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Brophy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Redban wants to counter with a clinch but Brophy pushes him away.

Brophy throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Redban was covering up waiting for the punch and Brophy finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brophy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Brophy stands and throws Redban's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Redban is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brophy happy to just control the position for now.
Brophy trying to control the action but Redban is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You can see the frustration on Redban's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Brophy on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Brophy is looking to slow Redban down with leg kicks.
Redban looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Redban is looking to chop away at Brophy's legs.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Brophy here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Brophy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Redban looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Redban tries to buck Brophy off but Brophy is having none of it.

Brophy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Brophy.

Redban tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brophy wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Redban throws a nice looking combination but Brophy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Brophy content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Brophy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Redban can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rogan Redban has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Redban tries to move into range but Brophy moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Redban walks into a stiff left hand from Brophy.

Brophy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Redban manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Conor Brophy showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brophy has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
