PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Blake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcelo George!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Blake!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blake bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
George tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Blake wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Blake trying to control the position but George is working away.

Blake tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Blake tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blake misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
George tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Blake wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Blake closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
George really is a fat lump.
George slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Blake looking to sit in guard and control but George gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

George is looking to stand up but Blake won't let him.

Blake is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and George defends well.
Blake is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

George won't allow Blake to sweep him here.
George is working Blake over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Blake is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

George stands and steps away. Blake gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Blake shoots in and bounces George off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
George looking to hit a scissor sweep but Blake is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Blake trying to control but George is working from the bottom.
George looking for a sweep. Not yet George, not yet.
Blake trying to control the position from guard on top but George is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
George wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Blake goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Marcelo George has been cut.
Adam Blake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

George gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Blake to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Blake advances position into side control!
Blake tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Blake throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and George works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

George actively working from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



A momentary lapse in concentration from George enables Blake to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. George manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Blake not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Blake accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Blake throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Blake throws an elbow that misses. George uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Blake's guard. Nice move by George!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Blake feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

George is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Blake looking to hit a scissor sweep but George is one step ahead there.
Blake not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
George loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Blake trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
George working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Blake throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as George accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Blake gets a takedown into half guard.
Blake is breathing heavily.
Blake content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are battling for position here. George manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
George is looking to stand up but Blake isn't so interested in that idea.
George lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Blake utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Blake is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and George defends well.

George is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Blake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



George has managed to clinch.

George lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Blake has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but George is on him like a limpet, forcing Blake back against the cage.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Blake. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Blake is fighting off a takedown attempt but George is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Blake to the mat. Blake regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Blake pushes George off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Blake shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. George manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now George is on top in guard.
George lands a couple of digs.
Blake seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Blake wants to sweep here but George controlling him for the moment.

Blake thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Blake takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
George is working Blake over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
George postures up and lands a big shot to Blake's brow.
George is looking to work some ground and pound but Blake has wrist control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Blake closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

George is not content to let Blake control the position.
Blake looking to control but instead George has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Blake is just content to waste time from the top position. George takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now George is on top in guard.
George lands a couple of digs.
Blake has a closed guard, preventing George from standing up.
Blake utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Blake connects with a body shot that sends George's belly button to the back.

Blake drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Blake is looking to stand up but George won't let him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

George might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Blake content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because George has locked up a guillotine! George's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Blake is holding on here and George must be using up a lot of energy. Blake has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! George gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
