PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harry Angstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Wates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Harry Angstrom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Edward Wates!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Phil Schofield and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Angstrom drives through and clinches with Wates against the cage.

Angstrom manages to break the clinch.
Wates has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Angstrom is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Angstrom shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wates as he avoids it easily.

and Angstrom counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Wates!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Angstrom has knee on belly momentarily but Wates bucks him off and regains half guard.
Angstrom throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Wates to regain full guard.
Wates manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Angstrom manages to get himself to full guard.


Wates got a little sloppy there for a moment and Angstrom has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wates has managed to get both his arms back between Angstrom's legs - danger averted.
Wates must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Angstrom is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Angstrom had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wates defends it easily.

Angstrom has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wates can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wates is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Wates won't allow Angstrom to sweep him here.
Angstrom has Wates pulled in close to control his posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Angstrom is trying to control the position but Wates postures up.

Angstrom is looking for a triangle but Wates pushes his legs off easily.
Wates throwing strikes from guard but Angstrom blocks nicely.

Angstrom is looking to cinch up a triangle. Wates throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Angstrom's body to avoid the submission. Angstrom has instead reached around Wates's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Angstrom arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Harry Angstrom!
Harry Angstrom spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
