The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vandam throws a low kick but Maverick moves out of range easily.
Vandam throws a push kick but Maverick slaps the foot to one side.
Vandam throws a combination that misses
and Maverick counters with a straight right hand.
Maverick throws the kick towards the body but Vandam avoids it.
Maverick ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vandam moves away.
Vandam cracks Maverick with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Maverick is looking to slow Vandam down with leg kicks.
A left lands for Vandam.
Maverick motions for Vandam to come forward. Maverick throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Billy Vandam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maverick will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Maverick.
Maverick throws a half hearted mid kick.
Vandam misses with a body shot.
Vandam backing away here, and Maverick unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

Maverick closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Maverick thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vandam's head.

Vandam is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Maverick is tapping! Great win for Vandam!
