The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rutten manages to avoid it.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Rutten.
Malia digs a good body shot into Rutten's ribs.
Malia misses with a straight right.
Malia connects with a body shot.
Malia swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Rutten counters with a nice low kick that buckles Malia's knee momentarily.
Malia misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Rutten cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

We've been told by Malia's head coaches at Fighting Fitness & Freedom that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
The crowd cheers as Rutten lands an impressive looking overhand right. Malia doesn't seem phased though.
Malia throws a body shot but no joy.
Rutten takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Malia throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rutten thinks about the counter body kick.

Malia clobbers Rutten with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Rutten lands a nice looking kick to the body. Malia takes a step back to recover.
Malia just misses with a punch to the body.
Malia throws the left hand but Rutten avoids the punch easily.
Malia misses with an uppercut.
Pika Paulo Malia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rutten throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Rutten moves out of range of the strikes.

Rutten tests Malia's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Malia is looking to wear down Rutten with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Rutten throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Malia wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Malia throws an overhand right that lands on Rutten's shoulder, as Rutten tries to avoid the shot.
Rutten appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Rutten uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Malia.
Malia misses with an uppercut. Rutten saw that one coming.
Rutten flicks out a counter leg kick but Malia steps away.
Malia misses the shot to the body.

Malia takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Malia ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rutten moves away.
Malia lands with a nice body punch.
Rutten throws a half hearted mid kick.
Malia throws a right hand that misses
and Rutten counters with a nice body kick.
Malia misses with a lunging right hand
and Rutten counters with a body kick that stops Malia in his tracks momentarily.
Rutten thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Malia if he has to take too many more of those.
Malia walks forward, straight into a front kick from Rutten.
Rutten lands a front kick.
Malia will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Rutten closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Malia! Rutten dives in looking to finish! Malia is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
