Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Royce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Keys (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Royce comes to the cage accompanied by Los-Countdown. Kyle Keys acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Royce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kyle Keys!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Royce gets a clinch.

Keys breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Keys stuffs the takedown.

Royce works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Royce working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Royce is in close to Keys's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Royce is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Keys is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Keys has escaped and now he's on top!

Royce looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Keys must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Royce lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Royce has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Keys seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

We've been hearing good reports from Royce's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Royce working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Keys doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Keys manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Royce is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Royce is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Keys stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Royce swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Keys wants to pass the guard but Royce is keeping the position.
Keys looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Royce looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Keys is fending him off so far but Royce persists. Nope, Keys circles away and we're back to standing.
As Royce backs off Keys throws a huge counter combo but Royce manages to avoid it all.
Keys pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Royce back to the cage. Keys follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Keys.

Jay Royce has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyle Keys.

Keys gets a clinch.
Keys is pressed up against the cage. Royce has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Keys down to the mat. Keys avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Royce will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Keys tries to counter with a clinch but Royce shakes him off and moves away.

Keys dives in and scores a takedown into Royce's guard.
Royce wants to get back to his feet but Keys passes into half guard.

Keys is working for a kimura but Royce is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Keys in particular looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kyle Keys will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Keys leaves Royce with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Keys closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Royce quickly recovers to half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Royce manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Keys controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Keys clinches up against the cage.
Royce is looking for a takedown.
Keys creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Keys using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Royce has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Royce throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Royce throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Keys's waist but Keys gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Royce off to one side.

Keys closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Royce's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Keys is stalling in the full guard.

Keys changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Royce looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Royce sneaks out the side door and pushes Keys away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Keys fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Royce went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Keys fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Royce avoids it really well and circles away.

Keys is trying to trip Royce. He has hold of a leg but Royce is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Keys persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Keys lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Keys takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee warns Royce that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Royce somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Keys throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Oh Royce is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Royce is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Keys is defending well.
Keys has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Royce is posturing up here but Keys has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Royce tries to roll out but it's too tight and Royce has to tap! Slick submission there by Keys!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kyle Keys!
A relieved looking Kyle Keys thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
