PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roger Schwarzeneg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hai Shang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hai Shang told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 50 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roger Schwarzeneg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hai Shang!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Shang there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Schwarzeneg misses with a takedown
and Shang counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Shang, right into the meat.
Shang scores with a head kick.
Schwarzeneg tries to clinch up.
Schwarzeneg goes for a double leg but Shang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Shang continues to drive forward.
Shang avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hai Shang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schwarzeneg will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shang connects with a nice short shot to Schwarzeneg's temple.

Shang decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Schwarzeneg has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Schwarzeneg there as he acknowledges the shot.
Schwarzeneg shoots in looking for a takedown but Shang manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Schwarzeneg's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Shang. Schwarzeneg shrugs it off though.

Schwarzeneg throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Shang throws out a counter right but Schwarzeneg avoids it with no problem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schwarzeneg explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Schwarzeneg walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Shang lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Schwarzeneg has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Shang finds it's way round the side to connect with Schwarzeneg's head.

Shang is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Schwarzeneg fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It seemed like Shang was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Nice straight punches there by Shang. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Shang.

and Shang counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Shang is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Schwarzeneg had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Schwarzeneg steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Shang. That one must have hurt.

Schwarzeneg shoots in but Shang avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hai Shang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Shang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
