PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Coy Collins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Coy Collins has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Coy Collins seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Coy Collins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mauricio Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Collins gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Velasquez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Collins keeps moving.
Collins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Velasquez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velasquez trying to control but Collins is working from the bottom.

Velasquez pushes down on Collins's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Velasquez stalling.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Collins wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Velasquez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
You can see the frustration on Collins's face as Velasquez controls the position.

Velasquez is looking to take a break and control but Collins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Collins wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez drags him back down.
Velasquez trying to control the position but Collins is working away.
Collins wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Velasquez is looking to take a break and control but Collins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Collins moves into range and clinches up with Velasquez.

Collins digs a right hand into Velasquez's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Velasquez's gas tank.
Collins is struggling to control the position.

Collins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Collins wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Velasquez manages to pass to side control.

Velasquez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Velasquez is trying to control. Collins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Velasquez gets tackled into the cage by Collins. Collins maintains the clinch.

Collins has Velasquez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Collins pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Velasquez tumbling to the mat - Collins dives into Velasquez's guard.

Velasquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Collins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Velasquez is looking for a triangle here but Collins uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velasquez wants to control but Collins postures up.

Velasquez tries to bench press Collins off him but Collins keeps the position.
Collins cracks Velasquez with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Velasquez tries to buck Collins off but Collins is having none of it.

Collins is looking to advance position but Velasquez won't allow it.

Collins is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Velasquez defends it well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Collins is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Collins throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Collins missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Mauricio Velasquez has got the better of the ground game so far.

Collins wants to work for an arm triangle but Velasquez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Collins closes the distance and clinches.
Collins wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Collins pulls Velasquez into guard.
Velasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Velasquez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Velasquez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Collins is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Velasquez has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Collins forces Velasquez back against the cage and clinches.
Collins tries to throw a body punch but Velasquez avoids it by throwing Collins back against the cage.

Velasquez has hold of one of Collins's legs. Collins is fighting the takedown attempt but Velasquez gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Collins can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Velasquez controls the pace.
Collins wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Velasquez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Velasquez drops back looking for a leg! Collins is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Collins manages to kick Velasquez off! Velasquez jumps back into Collins's guard.

Velasquez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Collins can't break the clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Velasquez tightens his grip and picks Collins up, before dumping him to the ground. Collins manages to land in guard.
Velasquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Velasquez is stalling in the full guard.

Collins lands a good elbow from the bottom.

Mauricio Velasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Velasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
