PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ari Kantola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Morrison Erikksen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morrison Erikksen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ari Kantola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Morrison Erikksen!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Erikksen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kantola napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kantola wants to control but Erikksen postures up.
Kantola is trying to get back to half guard.

Kantola is positioning himself well to prevent Erikksen advancing to mount.

Erikksen decides to return to a standing position.

Erikksen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kantola tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Erikksen is in Kantola's guard.

Kantola throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Erikksen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Erikksen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kantola is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kantola is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kantola definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Kantola's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Erikksen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A head kick from Kantola lands but Erikksen takes it in his stride.

Erikksen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kantola is trying to defend but Erikksen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Kantola is pressing down on Erikksen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Kantola has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kantola is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kantola is on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Erikksen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kantola's guard.

Kantola bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Erikksen's guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kantola lands with a nice combination. Erikksen backs away looking to recover.

Erikksen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Erikksen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kantola, up you get!

Kantola has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

It looks like Morrison Erikksen has been cut.

Kantola has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kantola is nestled in close to Erikksen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ari Kantola.
I think Kantola has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ari Kantola tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
