PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Slamet Panjul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Justin Jones will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Slamet Panjul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Jones!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Panjul looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jones!

Panjul tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Panjul has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Panjul tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Jones is trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Panjul has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Panjul drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones tries to circle away but Panjul has him pinned against the cage.
Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Panjul gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Panjul stops Jones from standing up.
Panjul trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Panjul stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Panjul gets to his feet - Jones follows without any prompting.
Jones throws a series of strikes that have Panjul backpedaling.
Jones tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Jones throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Panjul.
Jones cracks Panjul with a good jab.

Panjul closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Panjul lands in his opponent's guard.

Jones pushes Panjul off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Panjul is defended easily by Jones.
Jones lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Panjul scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Panjul is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Panjul prevents Jones from escaping the position.

Panjul is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.

Panjul stands up and beckons Jones to his feet.

Panjul manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jones on his heels. He'll look to pass Jones's guard now, I'm sure.
Panjul is breathing heavily.

Jones wants to stand but Panjul is controlling the position.
Jones told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Panjul engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Panjul is standing up over Jones. Jones looks to escape but Panjul dives into side control.
Panjul works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Panjul fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Jones is trying to get back to his feet.
Panjul advances to full mount.
Jones is squirming around, avoiding Panjul's attempts to control the action.
Jones's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Jones has given up his back here. Will Panjul look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Panjul is punishing Jones with strikes - can he finish him?!
A lull in the action here.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slamet Panjul dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Panjul has a takedown stuffed.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Panjul. Panjul gets slowly back to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Panjul or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Slamet Panjul. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones misses with a two punch combination.
Jones throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Panjul throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Panjul off to one side.
Panjul takes a jab right on the kisser.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones scores with a head kick.
Panjul steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Jones. That one must have hurt.

Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Panjul won't allow it.
Jones tries to circle away but Panjul has him pinned against the cage.
Jones wants to break free but Panjul has control.
Panjul has Jones pressed against the cage, preventing Jones from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Jones tries to break free but Panjul pushes him back against the cage.
Panjul wants a takedown but no success here.
Jones is trying to break free.
Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Panjul has him pressed against the cage.

Panjul has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Jones is trying to keep an underhook but Panjul manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Panjul wants to free his trapped foot but Jones is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Panjul is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones defends it well.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Panjul is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Jones.
Panjul doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Panjul takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Panjul takes a kick to the side of the head.
Jones with a nice cross.

Panjul takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Panjul darts in looking for a takedown but Jones gets double underhooks and turns Panjul into the cage.
Panjul fails with the takedown
and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jones bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Jones lands a leg kick that knocks Panjul off balance momentarily.
Panjul blocks a head kick by Jones.
Panjul darts in trying to clinch
and Jones makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Jones, right into the meat.
Jones buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Panjul with a lazy takedown attempt
and Jones counters with a series of strikes. Panjul will be more careful next time no doubt.
Left hook, right uppercut from Jones.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Panjul blocks a head kick by Jones.
Jones connects with the punch.
Nice shot by Jones.
Slamet Panjul is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Danga de danga de dang - Jones scores with a four punch combination!
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jones fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Panjul has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Panjul looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Panjul sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
A lazy left from Jones finds it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jones lands with a kick to the ribs.
Jones lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Jones leaves Panjul with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Panjul drops his hands momentarily and Jones takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Panjul takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Good leg kick by Jones there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Panjul looks for a takedown but Jones sprawls well.
Jones is looking for the big counter here.

Jones throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Panjul jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Panjul gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Panjul is struggling to control the position.
Jones looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Panjul has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jones is pressed up against the cage. Panjul has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jones down to the mat. Jones avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Panjul shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jones pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Panjul back to the cage. Jones follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Jones lands a nice looking body kick.

Jones connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Jones lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Panjul backs up against the cage.
Jones moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Jones thuds his right hand into Panjul's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Jones lands with a nice body kick.
Jones connects with a single shot there.
Panjul on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Panjul is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
A combination from Jones does no damage.
Justin Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Panjul with a poor takedown
and Jones counters with a nice low kick that buckles Panjul's knee momentarily.
Jones throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Jones feints a jab promting Panjul to slip. Jones then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Panjul slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Panjul looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Panjul clinches.
Panjul keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

Jones working hard to break the clinch.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Panjul won't allow it.

Panjul is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Jones can't fight it off and eventually Panjul manages to take the fight to the floor. Jones looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jones has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Panjul off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Panjul takes one to the chin there.
Jones lands with a nice combination. Panjul backs away looking to recover.
Panjul takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jones misses with the combination.

And that's the end of the fight!
Justin Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
