PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Asko Ilmarinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ranaroldo Silvardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ranaroldo Silvardo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Asko Ilmarinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ranaroldo Silvardo!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silvardo throws a head kick that Ilmarinen semi-blocks.
Ilmarinen scores with a body shot.
Silvardo throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Ilmarinen counters with a shoot takedown. Silvardo fights it but they end up in guard.
Silvardo keeping moving, preventing Ilmarinen from controlling successfully.

Silvardo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ilmarinen defends well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silvardo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ilmarinen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ilmarinen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Nice straight punches there by Silvardo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Silvardo.
Silvardo lands a leg kick that knocks Ilmarinen off balance momentarily.
Silvardo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ilmarinen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Silvardo's waist but Silvardo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ilmarinen off to one side.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silvardo is on top in guard.

Ilmarinen takes a kick to the side of the head.
Ilmarinen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Silvardo.
Ilmarinen went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Silvardo tries a head kick but it misses.
Silvardo misses with a takedown attempt - Ilmarinen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ilmarinen is looking to counter with head kicks.
Ilmarinen takes a kick to the side of the head.

Ilmarinen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ilmarinen tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Silvardo manages to circle out of the way.

Silvardo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ilmarinen has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Ilmarinen slips a jab and a cross from Silvardo.
Silvardo looks to land a combination but Ilmarinen avoids it well.

Ilmarinen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ilmarinen misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are battling for position here. Silvardo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Silvardo has his foot on Ilmarinen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ilmarinen works his way back into a safe position though.

Asko Ilmarinen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ranaroldo Silvardo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ilmarinen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Silvardo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Ranaroldo Silvardo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Ilmarinen passes to full mount!
Ilmarinen is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Silvardo is in real trouble.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Asko Ilmarinen showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Silvardo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
