PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neal Mccall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Lake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Neal Mccall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Lake!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lake moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Lake stuns Mccall with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Lake throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mccall tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lake is in Mccall's guard.
Mccall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mccall looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lake accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lake wants to stand and escape but instead Mccall has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Lake looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mccall passes into side control.
Mccall in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lake being controlled for a moment.

Mccall is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lake is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mccall working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Lake looking for a sweep but Mccall has passed into full mount! Oh no!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lake is looking to get to half guard.

Mccall stands up from mount. Strange move.

Lake closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mccall to the mat! Mccall manages to get full guard.
Mccall is looking to stand back up but Lake counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mccall.
Mccall is not content to let Lake control the position.
Mccall wants to control but Lake is keeping busy.
Mccall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lake content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Lake is going to stand back up.
Lake prevents Mccall from standing back up.

Lake wants to work for an arm triangle but Mccall is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mccall is trying to stand back up but Lake is controlling him
Mccall won't allow Lake to pass to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mccall is pressing down on Lake's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mccall is on top in guard.
Mccall is looking to stand up but Lake won't let him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lake bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lake prevents Mccall from escaping the position.
Mccall is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lake's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mccall gets full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lake trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Lake dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


A slow jab from Lake misses its intended target.
Mccall has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Lake connects with a high kick.

Mccall rushes Lake and presses him up against the cage.
Mccall has Lake pressed against the cage.

Lake breaks from the clinch.
Mccall tries to close the distance and clinch but Lake swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Lake looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mccall!
Lake has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lake decides to stand back up.

Lake shoots in and gets a takedown into Mccall's guard.
Mccall is pulling down on Lake's head. It's preventing any offense from Lake, at least for the moment.
Lake must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lake has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mccall is proving hard to escape from.
Lake throwing strikes from guard but Mccall blocks nicely.
Mccall looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lake wants to control from the top but Mccall keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lake pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mccall is keeping the position for now.
Mccall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lake throws a big right hand that misses.
Lake trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Lake shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mccall manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mccall is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Lake presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Lake is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Lake gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Mccall is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lake is controlling him.

Mccall pushes Lake off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lake throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lake is breathing heavily.

Lake shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lake showed some decent athleticism there.
Lake not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lake prevents Mccall from standing back up.
Lake is looking to stall here but Mccall recovers full guard.
Lake won't allow Mccall to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Lake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mccall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Mccall closes the distance and pushes Lake back into the cage.

Mccall misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lake.

Lake manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Peter Lake has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lake is trying to keep Mccall in close.
Mccall content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mccall lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Lake can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mccall controls the pace.
Lake trying to control the position.
Mccall tries to stand but Lake is controlling from the bottom.

Lake isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mccall stacks Lake on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mccall!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lake tries to improve position but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mccall clinches with his opponent.

Lake breaks from the clinch.

Lake closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mccall's guard.

Mccall wriggles free and stands up.
Lake takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mccall has Lake up against the cage in a clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Mccall.
Mccall prevents Lake from breaking the clinch.
Lake managing to block the knees to the body from Mccall.
Mccall dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mccall can't find room to land a body shot as Lake controls the action.

Lake jumps guard and drags Mccall to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mccall is standing up over Lake. Lake looks to escape but Mccall dives into side control.

Mccall tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mccall has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mccall decides to stand back up. Mccall steps back and let's Lake get back to his feet.

Mccall closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lake has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mccall uses from the top position.
Lake throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Lake is looking for a triangle here but Mccall uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Mccall working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Mccall stands up and we're back to a striking position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Neal Mccall showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lake has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
